Yay!! I'm glad you got it! You want to have the same metric for every ingredient. It's easier to scale your formulas this way. First you need to weigh each ingredient in a consistent metric like ounces. Then, add up the total weight of all the ingredients. Next, divide the weight of each ingredient by the total weight of all the ingredients combined, and multiply by 100 to get the percentage of each ingredient.

This was extremely helpful ! My only question is how do you know how much arrow root or steric acid , or vitamin E oil etc you’re supposed to use ? Or it doesn’t matter ? Like is there a percentage of arrow root you shouldn’t pass for safety ? For example

Every ingredient has a recommended usage rate. It's best to follow that when formulating. I only use 5% of Arrowroot powder or less. Stearic Acid has a usage rate of 1% to 25%. I use 10% but based on the thickness you are looking for you may test and find that want more than 10%. Hope this helps! 💕

Hi, I’ve watched all of your videos and they’re really good! I’m getting ready to start my own skincare business because of you. However, I do have a question. I am confused on the pricing spreadsheet. I am buying my ingredients in bulk…or large quantities (as I am sure I will mess up and I don’t what to have to constantly reorder and wait for product). Anyways, I am confused about the total costs portion. Should I be calculating the total cost I paid for the package? OR how much 1 single unit costs. Example: 5lbs of shea butter costs $28.99 and it’s $0.36 per ounce. So I am not sure if I should put in 0.36 or $28.98 for total cost.

For example, if you have a 100-gram formulation and you want to use 1% lavender essential oil, you would use 1 gram of essential oil.

Hey there! You get the percentage based on the usage rate and desired texture. If you're making body butter, a good rule of thumb is to use between 5 to 20% oil, depending on what kind of texture you're aiming for. Hello I am getting lose in sauce lol. I understand that you have to have formula that equals 100%. I know how make body butter but my issue having my body butter is not consistent when I make it. I have watch all your videos several times on formulating body butter the common mistakes etc. I not sure what is going on. I sent you email please read it. I using 60/40 ratio. But only using one butter and oils. Sometimes comes light fluffy other times comes out like pour method. I may also be doing wrong batch amount. If you doing batch formula are calculating basic of oz of the jar or total Amount you need. For example if do 4oz jar normal I would times by 10 come up with my total batch amount.

We are gonna get it right girl!! Don’t worry!! 😊😊 I think the problem is your ratios. To have one butter and all oils is going to create a very light fluffy consistency. You want to rid of some of the oils and add some harder butter like Cocoa butter or Kokum Butter. This will help bring some firmness to your formula. You don’t need a lot just about 10%. Also remove some oil and add unfractionated Coconut oil. It's solid at room temp so it will also keep bringing firmness to your product.

I completely understand. I think the cocoa butter will help firm it up. You could also add beeswax at 6% and take that for the sunflower oil. To bring more stability. If your selling this product in the summertime it won't last in the heat. But, give it a try and let me know.

For example 39%. U said to take .39 x 100= 39 oz. But we just reversed the math instead of converting it correct? Bc .39 has already been divided by 100, so for clarification why are we multiplying it by 100 to get our answer?

You are multiplying by 100 because that was an example of how many oz you may be making. So if you are making 100 oz of body butter you would need 39oz of shea butter as an example.

No. Let's not make it simple! Because what's simple to you can be mega frustrating to the beginner audience you are trying to help! If formulating was so simple, there wouldn't be 100's of those 'how to' videos out there! When you're teaching, please don't assume anything! Your numbers are based on a batch size. Beginners don't know what a batch size is or if they need one! I know I didn't! And how do you figure out a batch size anyway when you're not a business? Anyway, 39oz or 1105.63 grams! How would you calculate or brake down those grams for a formula? I've never seen grams that high! I'm more confused than ever. Sorry!

I didn’t think saying “Let’s make it simple” would be offensive! That wasn’t my intent. I figured it would be simple to calculate using a whole number like 100 to get another whole number. My recipe was 100oz 39% of that would be 39oz. Please understand that 40% of my viewers are international that primarily use the metric system, so I made sure to have the equivalent in grams which is 1105.63.
