A few things I forgot to mention in the video - I used 5% arrowroot powder and 5% corn starch. Highly recommend arrowroot powder over corn starch. Also, I highly recommend the addition of vitamin E in anhydrous products. I believe I talked about this in a past video of my “formulating for beginners series” Vitamin E keeps oils from oxidizing. Meaning it will help keep the oils fresher resulting in an anhydrous product that lasts longer. Always remember, vitamin E is not a preservative. It just helps oils last longer by delaying the oxidation process. When oils come into contact with oxygen it degrades the quality of the oil and eventually produces rancidity in oils.

If they tell you than you won’t buy their products. I understand to a certain extent. Nowadays most things are researchable. It’s hard out there to make a living. 😩

The fact that I share my knowledge on formulating doesn't really make me scared that people aren't going to buy my products. A lot of people aren't interested in making their own products, they just like to watch and learn. & the people who do want to learn how to formulate, probably aren't going to buy my products anyway, because they make their own.

TaraLee very true! I'm pretty sure 90% of those watching just like to be informed and learn but won't actually make their own products. I think if you aren't going to make a business out of it, it's not worth buying all the stuff to make it yourself, so it's better to buy from those who already are making it. Plus supporting small businesses is so dear to me ❤️

TaraLee Not you. I’m talking in general. I’m mainly thinking about some instances in the soap making community I observed. It is their business to make and sell soap and a lot of them almost never give out their formulas. Their videos are more of a promoting than tutorial. Maybe it’s because most people that do look at those videos do make soap. I really don’t know. I was just answering in general why a person might not give it up.

More info on butters: For those who don’t know, butters in their raw form (before you whip up your ‘body butter’ recipe) are sourced from nuts, beans, and seeds. So, butters can have a nutty aroma (if they have an aroma at all) or an aroma with the characteristics of the plant the butter is derived from (like cocoa butter smelling chocolatey). Smell can also depend on where the plant grew up. Butters can add viscosity to a recipe. Like Tara mentioned butters are moisturizers. You may hear them referred to as emollients which means moisturizer (put plainly). :)

Do we add vitamin E to conserve body butter????!!!!!
@oliviagraves5327
@oliviagraves5327 3 жыл бұрын
@@dhahriassia3438 According to this video by Tara (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qniTZJagf8tmjpI) Vitamin E oil is an antioxidant. Therefore you can use it to preserve oil/oil based products. However, the moment water is introduced to the butter they opens the door for organisms like bacteria to make a home in the product. Tara said where there is water there is life. Which is true. If you are just making body butter for yourself vitamin E oil sounds like a reasonable preservative to use. If you make a small batch, even if you get water in it because your hands weren’t dry when you got some, you may end up using all of it before there is enough time for anything to go bad. I recommend watching Tara’s formulating for beginners playlists!!! She explains a lot of this stuff. Honestly because body butters are anhydrous and a lot of butters and oils have a shelf life of a year in the correct environment you may not need a preservative at all as long as you keep it dry. Good luck on your body butter making journey :)

Pain relief body butters is how I started my natural skin care brand out with, exactly because they are anhydrous and I didn’t have to learn about preservatives just yet while I picked up the other ends of the business. Now I am learning from you how to take em to the next level and you are such an inspiration, and wanted to thank you!!! you truly create meaningful, useful content with such generous and lively discussion. Thank you so much for helping us all in our journey!! Ps I love adding spirulina (a green algae powder) for natural colourants like beet powder etc and other botanical like this as my tip!

Thanks for the video! This really helped me improve my body butter recipe. I'll have to pick up arrowroot, but even using the corn starch there was an improvement for me. I used to use coconut oil but changing the proportions a bit and subbing in sunflower oil to make a shea and sunflower butter made a much more spreadable and consistent result.

I simply enjoy watching someone make it whether it be body butter on you tube or taffy at gatlinburg tennessee. But this one was very informative compared to most. Thanks again and I enjoyed watching the video.

I'm a Tattoo Artist and make my own brand of a Tattoo Glide Product for Tattooing. The industry has used petroleum jelly for years but it is definitely not something you want on a fresh Tattoo which is a wound. There are several products on the market but they are expensive. I started with a basic Shea/Coconut Oil recipe with essential oils and Vitamin E as a preservative and have been fine-tuning it. For my needs, I want a lubricant that is stable, natural, and healthy. I am also now working on an aftercare product to keep the Art fresh! I learned so much from this video that I already ordered a few additional ingredients to work on my formula. Thank you TaraLee for this very informative video!

My favorite butter is cupuaçu butter... it's very moisturizing and in my opinion, far less greasy than other butters such as shea or cocoa, besides having what I consider the "perfect" consistency (harder than shea yet softer than cocoa). I really enjoy using it in my deep moisturizing conditioner formula

Great video, very informative. Just wanted to mention that there are coconut butters that melt at 76 or 82 degrees. This is good those who live in cooler places

If you really like coconut oil on your skin you can use fractionated coconut oil it stays liquid and is at every grocery store (Walmart, Kroger Meijers, etc.) It is organic and works just as well

I've been making body butters for years and the last 2 years I fell in love with emulsified body butters! LOL. It involves adding water and also a preservative to your formula but the end result is the amazing benefits of using a body butter like extra moisturizing but without the heavy body butter feeling that it usually leaves on the skin and the greasy feeling

Recently found your videos and I’m in love! This is a little off topic but can you make a video on using fresh ingredients like fruits in skincare? I really would love to learn how to preserve and what preservatives to use for a long shelf life and Non-refrigerating.

There is no such preservative that will preserve anything with fresh fruit or fresh anything in a cosmetic. There isn't a preservative that will keep it fresh in the refrigerator. So when you watch a banana degrade in the fridge that is your cream the bacteria is invisible but guarantee it is there.

Hi, I love your video, it's very informative and straight forward .My question to you is , can I add oil soluble kojic acid to make it a skin lightening butter? If so , how much and can I substitute one of the oils with rice bran oil? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks

Hey Tara , How do you feel about grapeseed oil ? Would you recommend using in a body butter , oil or scrub . And could you recommend a butter and oil that will help with hyperpigmentation. I love your videos by the way they have helped me so much with my small business

What would you use to give the skin a nice sheen after application. I've used some body butters that make my skin glowy after using them. Thanks Tara!

Deandra’sHeart emulsifier is a product that typically helps mix water and oils together. Because oil and water do not mix people use and emulsifier to help it blend it together and stay together and not separate when settled. There are all types of emulsifiers you just have to do your research as to which one you want to use in your butter.

@@TaraLeee Tara if you don't mind sharing can I please ask you where you got your in depth knowledge on how to formulate recipes for lotions soaps and other skin care products as well and knowledge on the vast array of skin care ingredients? I appreciate and respect your knowledge that you share regardless of whether people plan on creating a business or not we are all on the same team and there is nothing wrong with sharing knowledge and experiences with each other! Skin care can go north , east,south,and west meaning there is so much to learn and that is why I think it's important to document ,take notes no matter if it's for starting a business or just doing this for you and family and some close friends! Also I believe you stated you were in the Buckeye state......if so I believe that Bulk Apothecary is in the Buckeye state but have you ever went into their showroom to view it..I spoke to one of their reps who told me they have a show room so was just curious if you had gone in to it?! TYIA!
