How To... Calculate Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient (By Hand)

Use the Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient (R) to measure the relationship between two variables where one or both is not normally distributed. This is a non-parametric ranks based test. Note: There are no ties in the data used in this video. If your data has ties you should consider using a different test (eg Kendall's tau). Made with GoPro.

An excellent and poignant example. Well done! Price fluctuations don't conform to a normal distribution, as many things. When multiple modes (repetitious data, fractional ranks) occur in significance, this would seem to revert the Spearman back toward the Pearson. The coefficient of 6 in front of sigma almost seems magic for integer ranks.
