Wow y'all break subjects into smaller areas huh.... For us, it's just Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.. We do all the sub parts together as one single paper... A 5 hour paper for each subject.. Only about 2.5% get A for Physics lol.. The maximum A percentage was 10% for Chemistry.. It's that competitive and challenging here

Wait, what. This is completely different from what I am learning in school. They are teaching that there exist two methods for calculating Zeff, one for the e- present in ns or np subshell and other one for the one present in nd or nf subshell. The first method is as follows :- First write the electronic configuration on the basis of the shell number of the electron, e.g - K = 1s2 2s2-2p6 3s2-3p6 4s1 Now for calculating the effective nuclear charge on any of the e- of 3rd shell (example), multiply the number of e- (of the same shell) except this electron (here 7 = [8 - 1]) by 0.35. {7 * 0.35 = 2.45} Now add this to the product of number of electrons in the predecessor shell (here 8) and 0.85. {2.45 + (8 * 0.85) = 9.25}. Now add this to the product of the rest of electrons beyond the predecessor shell (here 2) and 1. {9.25 + (2 * 1) = 11.25} So, σ = 11.25 Now, Zeff = Z - σ = 19 - 11.25 Zeff = 7.75 I am still learning this method. Please forgive me if I went wrong with anything above. It's just what I am being taught.
