For me, the easiest way to think of this is: you subtract the western offset from the eastern offset (subtract the lefthand city's offset from the righthand city's). But subtract the actual number including any minus sign. That is: +2 minus (-5), which equals 2 + 5, which equals 7. This sounds complicated to explain in print, but the actual principle is simple: you ALWAYS subtract the smaller number from the larger number (keeping in mind that -4 is smaller than, say, +1)!

Hi, i have a question. For example, Right now its 11PM 17 oct/19 on canada. And canada falls in PDT time zone. So there is an event PDT 1pm oct/19. I am residing in PDT timezone. I am able to spoof(meaning changing my location) to Canada at 1pm(here its 10:30pm) but the event doesn't take place untill 1:30 in my timezone. How can a city that falls under a specific time which had acquired the required time doesn't add to the time zone 1pm ? I know this sound confusing. But this is why i'm here.

Yes, that was a frustrating omission.. It is marked on the map. Each time zone tells you for instance, on the Western Hemisphere.. how far behind Greenwich mean time a country is... and likewise for the Eastern Hemisphere it tells you how far a country is ahead. You subtract for the West and add for the East .. There are 24 zones.. each zone is one hour apart as there are 24 hours in a day. As you move East in a counter clockwise direction time is added, so if you start from Greenwich Mean Time and move two zones you have gone two hours ahead. If you go West in a clockwise direction you subtract one hour for every zone. You look for which country, hence city falls within the respective time zones to see how many hours ahead or behind GMT it is.

Greenwich Mean Time is 7 hours ahead of California, USA. Hence -7 for California and +8 for Perth= 15 hrs
