What should we learn about next? Stair building is coming soon! This video might be confusing to some, due to terminology used. Framing rakes is never a task a builder would expect from an apprentice, as most journeymen struggle to figure it out. Also, click the quality and watch in [4K] if you have the ability. From now on, majority of content will be in [4K] as we’ve recently upped all of our production gear. Thank you for 50,000 subscribers, this year is going to be a good one. So much coming, you guys better be ready! B A N G x O N!

MattBangsWood thanks Matt for taking the time to explain, very helpful tip, that’s why I like to watch your videos and many more carpenters , I always find new tricks. I once had to frame 2 rake walls 8/12 pitch and I had to snap lines on the floor to get it done 🤦‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

When I have a nice clean subfloor to work off of I snap my rake walls to scale from my square lines that I snapped for my exterior walls so I know the rake wall will be square and I can sheath it laying down and then lift it. I can definitely use your method to increase my efficiency. Good stuff!

Right around minute 4:53, where you change base studs and calculate the pitch for a 16" run, once that calculation is done, you should be able to press "+" and then "=" to get the next one, and then just keep smashing "=" to get the rest of the stud lengths, right?
@h2oskier32

Hey Matt! Just thought I would mention.....if you download the construction master app on your phone.....It has a rake wall function "R/wall" on the RISE key. You set your first stud as the base length and then all you have to do is hit the rise key for each subsequent stud length.

Hey Matt why don’t you set up an excel sheet to calculate everything in this for you where all you have to do is enter the rise and run in one square then it translates down the sheet to all the others then from there you just have to put in the base stud and everything gets calculated out from there by adding the new stud spacing
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 жыл бұрын
So I’ve seen that done, and that’s totally doable as well.. With this place, stud spacing was never 16” OC, aside from the first stud calced in this video.. So that was kind of out the window. While it would still work, being able to do it on calculator is a must for us. Those programs where you punch in info, I feel doesn’t teach you HOW to get there, just what you end up with.

Sailor / Traditional Style Nautical on the left. Will explain more in a later video.. I had kids with my wife at a very young age, 15. I dropped out of school and made a better living by the time I was 18 than I would have if I’d gone to college. At 23, I do pretty well for myself and my family. if the angle of your top plate is 45 degrees then every time you move 16'' to the side your stud gets 16" longer as well. If you learn a little trig all you need to know is the angle of your top plate and the distance you want to move sideways. Check out this old tony's video on sine bars if you are interested.
@Jmoneysmoothboy
@Jmoneysmoothboy 5 жыл бұрын
also here's a pro tip. Cut your longest pieces first that way if it don't fit you can just move it to where it does
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 жыл бұрын
Everything has to land on layout with rake wall framing in our area or the sheathing on the exterior won’t work out, can’t really move it over. Explaining it with 45° or 6/12 (8” rise per 12” run) is simple, doing it with something that doesn’t work out to an even number of rise is where it gets a bit tricky for most. By knowing the angle of your top plate (pitch), and distance traveled (run), it gives you your (rise). Same calculation, different way of saying it. What video are you referencing? I’d love to check it out.
@Jmoneysmoothboy
@Jmoneysmoothboy 5 жыл бұрын
@@MattBangsWoodActually the video I referenced isn't the greatest example because its on a slightly different subject but its definitely worth the watch anyway. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoCQcpVtjst1sLs that fancy calculator you're using confused me the first time I watched the video because it sort of does the trig for you but now I understand it better. On a normal calculator if you set up the problem right then every time you press enter it shows you the next stud length at 16" centers for the pitch in question.

Don’t understand why you aren’t doing the actual math without a carpenter’s calculator. It’s better to keep it physical in one’s mind when they use an ordinary calculator. Othe than that great video
