as a guy who does this for a living, i can say, no, its not prefect DIY and this is kinda hard to watch because he makes some decisions that make his wrap harder to accomplish, but hey, he got the job done in the end so no dislike here, but no like either.
@MattCantSpeakIt Жыл бұрын
Because this is not Carbon Fiber wrapping. This is vinyl wrapping. It's not AT ALL the same. He even wrote CARBON FIBER in uppercase XD. The process has nothing to do with actual CF wrapping, the results looks half as good, and it doesn't add any strength. In the case of dash parts strength doesn't matter, but actual CARBON FIBER wrapping is used a lot to strengthen a part... This video doesn't help whatsoever with that. This is why he gets dislikes.

I'm kind of surprised that I don't see more people use some windex to help position the carbon fiber rap. It helps a lot and as you're using the hair dryer it will dry it as you're forming it around the radiused edges and corners and it gives you a little bit of 'slip&wiggle' to work with also.

I used ordinary eBay matte blue vinyl on my 2009 crv. This little square piece you cannlift off that's on the top. Anyway l wrapped it without proper preparation like wiping it with alcohol etc. Just normal wiping it clear of dust. Then wrapping it. First time as experiment and that piece gets full sun exposure everyday. 2years later it's holding on pretty nice and clean. My point is. Imagine if it was top quality adhesive vinyl or had proper preparation. I'd imagine it'd hold on good for at least double the time. The colour was same as first day as well. So anyone can do it and with practice you could get professional looks even on the more complicated parts you're doing. Hope that gave you abit of an idea.

Been watching for a while, I work at a wrap shop an the only thing I have to say about your wrap other than it was pretty good is the fact that you use a bare squeegee lol. Usually you’d wanna use some sort of felt or soft surface when rubbing the squeegee on the vinyl. No big deal but just something I wanted to point out cuz you risk scratching the vinyl also using a heat gun can be a lot easier I wrapped for the first time with a hair dryer and it sucked especially things like mirror caps that are more complex not too hard to use just have ti be more careful and use it sparingly so you dont overheat it. Anyways keep posting cool stuff!
@justinbuice4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips! Usually when experts watch my videos they just rip me apart without actually giving useful advice. In the sharp corners I can defiantly see where a heat gun would have made stretching a lot easier. I'll use one for my next project for sure!

Was hoping to see how you dealt with the window on the 2nd piece. When you make relief cut at each corner how do you keep the cuts from being visible? Obviously you want to keep your cuts on back side so they're not seen, but wondering if the material wraps well enough to do this?.
