I did a carb setup. Now I’m getting nothing on the dash or fuel pump. I get a click when trying to start. I’m getting power to the switch and to the starter solenoid but not on the dash. Do the wires need to be in an order on the solenoid? A week ago I had everything working. All I did was take out the motor harness
@GroverBoysRacing777AdamGrover10 ай бұрын
If you removed the engine harness the dash wont work. You'd have to look at a schematic, get a pig tail, and pin the wires for the gauges in the dash. If the engine is just clicking and not cranking over, you may need more engine to chassis grounds. Take a pair of jumper cables and put one side on the engine (intake bolt, bell housing boltalternator bracket bolt or clean metal of some sort) then connect the other side to the chassis or even one to ground on battery and other to chassis (clean metal, bolts going into frame rails, firewall, or inner aprins). Thats a quick way we use to rule out inadequate chassis grounds. As for starter solenoid wiring, one side should be a few hot wires 1 from battery, along with a few others, other side should be 1 wire to the starter, then theres 1 wire for the small post that just pushes on unless someone changed it to make it bolt onto the small post. Google your year (mustang solenoid wiring) and you should be able to find it to verify wiring order. I can almost garuntee its not enough ground cables though. Good luck and let me know how you make out!
@davidpound237510 ай бұрын
@@GroverBoysRacing777AdamGrover so I did that and I’m still getting a click. I checked with a light, I have power to the ignition switch and power to the solenoid. And when I say motor harness I meaning the passenger side harness is gone. I still have all the wires on the driver side. Like the yellow, the black/white with the little box, and a few others. I also tried jumping the solenoid and all I’m getting is spark and I tried two different solenoids. And this is on a 1987 lx 5.0 t5 conversion. It was a 4cy automatic. @@jessejames1106 thats correct along as you can get the pressure down around 7psi itll be fine. This is just a cheaper way of doing it

i am in the middle of carb swapping my 86 GT, i got the intake,carb, and fuel lines all installed and getting a consistant 6psi to the carb. the car wont start and i cant figure out why. it ran pretty decent right before i swapped it! any ideas on why it wont start?

Is the tfi for the distributor wired correctly? The red wire jumps to the power side of coil and to a key on power or a toggle switch. If you have it to a key on source, make sure the piwer source has power while the key is cranking, not just when key is on. I made this mistake years ago and chased it for hours lol

I have a 86 lx I’m trying to swap to carburetor from efi I have a 84(carb car) that I’m using for parts is there anyway I can use it’s ecu and harness? Trying to keep it simple and have everything work(gauges,key, etc.) I’d appreciate any feedback
@GroverBoysRacing777AdamGrover2 жыл бұрын
For the gauges youd have to trace what pins in your harness plugs go to what gauges you want to work. The ecu doesnt control any gauges, theyre pinned from the body harness. So the ecu and engine harness can be pulled out or you can use your current engine harness and depin the wires you dont want to use.
@brandontaylor96012 жыл бұрын
@@GroverBoysRacing777AdamGrover metaphorically speaking would I be able to use the 84 harness with the 86 ecu and have everyone work or are the plugs different so I’d just have to depin the 86 harness

Why not just live the factory engine harness init an just run the wiring from each pin to your oil temp gauge an tech. There with using factory computer that's how I would do that
