I didn't have cancer or go through chemo. But I was in a bad car wreck which resulted in 18+hours of surgery in under 24hrs. Afterwards, my super thick, straight hair started falling out in clumps, which I later found out from my hairdresser that trauma and anesthesia will cause. When my hair finally started to grow back, it was thin, gray, and not exactly straight. It took forever for me to figure out that my hair was now wavy and I'm still figuring out what products to use and how to use them.

Jenn, bless you! Thank you for sharing. Congrats on beating cancer!!! I've also had similar and didn't know how to ask here. My hair is finally growing back, I, too did not lose all of my hair. After stopping chemo, it did take a few months before I noticed new growth and my hair is also curlier than before! It was 2c mainly and is now 3a mainly! I thank God for my hair more than ever before! Courtney, I love that you've said you were fearfully and wonderfully made (just like that precious soul growing inside of you)... thank you Ladies! I swear I'd just been praying "Lord, what about those of us with chemo curly hair woes?" And here was your video! God loves us and even cares about our hair issues. You guys made my day! Blessings and hugs from a little horse town in the desert southwest.

@@ValleyPresby I'm so glad your hair has grown back. I've been on chemo drugs and steroids for decades, and my hair just keeps getting thinner, breaking off, etc. I know Courtney has done a video on Kerotin products, and I'm almost willing to shell out the $ to try them. The receding hairline and bald spot are getting to me! Best wishes to you, with your hair and the vasculitis!

I'll find out in a two weeks if I will need chemo or not. I quit coloring my hair three years ago. I love my sparkly blonde color now! I started the CGM in April and am starting to hone in on different techniques, products, etc. So it'll be a bummer, if I do have to do chemo. But if I do, my hair journey thus far along with my healthy hair mindset and this video will be immensely helpful! Thank you both so much for your time! This will help so many people! Much love! ❤️🙏

I lost my hair the first chemo treatment. My scalp really felt funky. So I had 3 chemotherapy treatments The 1st one I lost all of my hair then I did a 33 week trial of chemo my hair didn't grow back and then I had ovarian cancer stage 4 twice. So more chemo and surgery.. and I also had thyroid and parathyroid cancer so more chemo and they took my thyroid and parathyroid out. Now that was about 8 years ago. I have always been super straight. Now I have curly wavy hair and I love it.

Congratulations on getting through chemo! You are a champion!! Thank you for all the tips. Something that has worked for me is It’s a 10. Completely wet hair with about 1 tbs. of the product. Works really well, giving the curls shape and reduces and frizz. When dry and you can see there is not enough produce, pray water (wet) and add product. Never brush after a wash.

Could I make a request pleaseeee?? I would really appreciate any recommendations for gentle shampoos/conditioners and stylers to use for daily washing. My sister washes her hair daily (her scalp hurts otherwise) and I wash mine every other day or every third day- but this is also pretty stripping unless I do deep conditioning masks every week. Since we wash so regularly a more affordable shampoo/conditioner would be appreciated (less than $20 each). I love your tips! Thank you for doing what you do!

Hi there - I had 8 cycles of chemo infusions. Then 7 weeks of daily radiation treatment for breast cancer. I use to have very long 3c curls that loosened a little bit after chemo. My hair is very fine with medium density. My hair has grown rather quickly drinking fenugreek tea and taking Phyto/ Phytophanere hair and nails vitamins (no biotin). These are expensive... The cheapest I’ve found are on eBay. Best wishes to you❤️

Hey Courtney! I love your curly hair videos! I have been trying to embrace my wavy/curly hair for a few months now. About a month or 2 i started getting an itchy scalp near the crown of my head. Ever since than (now almost a year into my curly hair journey) I have tried rice water rinse, and apple cedar vinegar rinse as well. I'm not sure how long i will see results but nothing has worked yet. I just wanted to see if you had any recommendations on an itchy scalp? Thank you for all your informative videos

Have you seen a dermatologist? It might be worth seeing one to make sure that you don't have any other skin issues going on that could be causing your dry and itchy scalp. If you've been to a dermatologist or don't want to see one, I've heard good things about the As I Am Dry and Itchy Scalp Care collection. Also, you can try avoiding products with Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone. They're often referred to as the "itchy Ms" and can cause a dry and itchy scalp in a lot of people.

@@killerrabbitofcaerbannog1531 Thank you. I did point it out to my doctor but she didn't seem concerned or didn't referred me to a dermatologist. I thought it was postpartum but i've always had dry skin especially during winter. I will look into all that.

@@alanahill6857No problem! I also forgot to mention exfoliating shampoos and shampoo brushes in my previous comment. If you're no poo or low poo, it makes it harder to clean any products you may have in your hair, which can cause product buildup. Product buildup can clog hair follicles and can cause your scalp to become itchy, dry, and flaky. Exfoliating shampoos really help get rid of all of the dead skin and any product buildup on your scalp. I use Eva NYC Deeptox Exfoliating Salt Shampoo about every third or fourth wash and follow it up with their Therapy Session Hair Mask. Shampoo brushes are also great for in between clarifying washes. They clean your scalp and help wash out products better than just your fingers to help reduce product buildup. Good luck! I hope this helps and that you find a solution that works for you. I know how annoying a itchy, dry, and flaky scalp can be.

Curlsmith has a scalp care line for itchy scalp. It’s helped mine a lot. It’s the blue pre poo, blue shampoo and blue conditioner, also the serum and elixir. The others in the blue line are great too but less geared towards scalp.

I see it’s been a yr plus since this video was made but I have no idea what to do with my hair. I ended the strong chemo 3 yrs ago. My hair has come curly. It was straight with body but very baby fine. I have no idea what to do with it. No hair dresser has been of any help. I just keep cutting it short because I can’t stand it. It’s not like when I had perms in the 80s. It’s very fine still and less hair then before. But the individual hair has a very tiny kink to it as well as curl. It’s not a tight curl. It ends up looking like fuzz almost like a dandy lion with the top more or less flat. Right now I’m using Pantene pro v moisture shampoo and conditioner. It’s done the best and that’s not saying much. I’ll start with watching your How to Curly Girl vids. I’m older and my hair is a great silver grey color but looks terrible. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

I know a lot of people say that chemo turns hair curly. I don't know if there is any scientific proof behind that statement. If not, my theory is that chemo itself doesn't make the hair curly. Instead, the person's new post-chemo hair growth is completely free from dye/heat damage, which allows their hair to be the natural curl they never knew they had.
