My mom found my first grey hair when I was 12. However, it’s been a slow greying process, so I am about 35% grey, and most of that grey is turning white. My hair has always been fine but you explained why my greys are coarser than the white hairs. Thanks!!!

Love this video. I started graying at 30. Right at the front of my hairline and I hated it so I’ve been colouring my hair since. Now 15 years later I’m tired of the colouring process but I’m still struggling with the idea of embracing my grays, and think I’d prefer to a graduation of lighter colours into the grays. I love that you touched on that a little.

Ok I’m going to watch because it’s you. I’m 55yrs old, have had grey since 29yrs old but I’m not ready to give in. My grey frames my face, I hate it. I don’t mind so much the grey throughout but I’m still doing my roots to be consistent. This is my only bad hair process I’m still doing. I’ve been “natural “ for 10yrs. I’m dying my natural dark brown so not changing the color. I do have a steamer so I’m deep conditioning weekly, protein treatments 6-8 weeks, and keeps heat off my hair. Great I’m under 50%. HOW DID I MISS THIS, FAM?!?!? Love the tips but it's the awkwardness for me 🤣 When I began "graying", I actually went straight from jet black hair to white hairs, a patch of them on the top of my head. I talk about coloring my grays, which I recently did with a demi-permanent toner, but in actual fact, I've only ever seen white hairs on my head. How come I didn't have a gray transitional phase? I'm not mad about it at all, because I prefer white to gray against my black hair, but I'm just curious about why that happens. Thanks as always for the equal parts professional tips and comedy! PS I love that you fired a client hahahahahhaaa!

You are awesome! This is such important information here! Where were you 20 years ago when I quit dyeing my hair? I had no clue about grey and white hair-none whatsoever! My whole life my hair has been super coarse, super thick, with each strand as thick as 6 normal hair strands. So I only a few months ago woke up that is absolutely not what I have now that it is nearly white. I am definitely a slow learner here! I quit dying my hair 20 years ago, probably when I hit 50+% grey like you said. NOW my hair is the complete opposite of everything my hair used to be. Ya look at my hair and it breaks! Ya think about heat and it breaks. …and falling out? Let me tell you about aging! It is getting thin! The hard water makes it feel like straw, clarifying make it feel like hair again but you aren’t kidding you gotta moisturize after. I need protein AND I need moisture. Your tips for leave in conditioner, etc is just what I needed! On my way to watch your video on porosity now. I am starting to think about getting a silver white wig. In fact that is how I found you…all your tips to save ratty dried out wigs. Knowing I can care for a wig is making me more willing to spring for one. Thanks! I am working my way through all your videos (including microblading-who knew there is actually help for my nearly disappeared eyebrows). You’re the best!

Is using Henna Indigo ok for grey hair?
@rhouse4958
@rhouse4958 4 жыл бұрын
Gina Lacey yes but Henna is permanent and you can’t get rid of it. I am a licensed cosmetologist and used Henna and when I wanted to go lighter I couldn’t get it lighter. I used the Henna sold at Sally because it said it was semi permanent but ended up having to cut it all off. I even reached out to several cosmetologist on Instagram for recommendations and they all said it rarely lightens and typically have clients just grow it out or cut it out. Plus it is messy and has to sit for a long time. Recommend you just use color, it is faster and less messy. Plus easier to remove. Hope this helps. I really wish someone had to told me this before I used Henna because my hair was past my shoulders and I had to cut it all off.

I’m so so glad I stumbled across this video I’m growing out my gray and it truly is grayt! How ever I’m definitely dealing with changing hair. This video was so informative and I loved the gray blending client you showed. I tried so hard to find a good colorist to do this with black hair with no luck😟 definitely going to tune in for the porosity video. Thanks so much for the content!

I am so glad I came across your video. I'm 57yrs old and I finally have enough grays to be noticable. I've had braids for 6 years which hid the graying of my hair. Now I'm tired of braids and I want to rock the gray. Thank you for the tips!

I am grateful for this information because I struggle with greys especially that horrible colour when it's relaxed. Thanks for the tip on blending the greys rather than covering them up especially when we have over 50% grey. I always wonder why my greys peek through after one week of colouring. That's a great tip as well as all the information about grey hair. Thanks again. I will definitely share this video with my friends who have grey hair and trying to cover it up....lol

You're adorable and I appreciate you addressing grey hair concerns...my hair is totally white with three different curl patterns, I'm CONSTANTLY changing products which becomes costly and frustrating! I'll try the Xtreme Gel as my hair just laughs at sprays.

I have relaxed grey/white/salt pepper hair that I stopped dying at the start of COVID-19. I was natural and dying for over 10 years before that. Too much work!! I went to the creamy crack and no dye. I use the purple shampoo, conditioners, hot oil treatments, and no heat by moussing and wrapping. I dry by air. Never any heat except maybe to bump a curl for bangs. A great cut and shape up and BOOM! I get many compliments on the cut and color. People are literally paying to become gray these days and we got it free with time! Lol #EmbracingGraytness

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! I have been using the clairol shimmering lights and it’s working. I think I’m about 25% - 30% gray (I big chopped to cut the dye out of my hair), but noticed that my gray is wiry and won’t curl when I put gel in it like before. I’m hoping when my hair grows out, it won’t continue to do this. I’m going to take your advise about the steamer. I have a handheld steamer (Q-Redew) and hope it softens the hair with continued use. Again thank you Linwood!

My joy! The benefit to growing it out is that the weight of the hair helps offer control that you sometimes don’t get with gels. Steamers can definitely help with moisturizing a bit deeper😊❤️

I greyed early because of high stress and worrying after the death of my husband. I have low porosity period before I had any grey. I am a 3B and 3C hair not sure what it wants to do lol. I found a flaxseed gel and I have been natural for about 8 years if not longer and the flaxseed gel has a great reaction on my hair but I do notice that after a few days it has a tendency to dry again.

I got the nerve to dye my hair and braid(individuals) it up. Its been two week and my gray is providing a show and tell performance. I have a hair crayon I'm using to cover the gray in. between washings. It's working so far. I just hate manipulating my hair once it braided. I'm in a high ponytail until I wash it or remove the braids. Thanks for all the tips. Have an AWESOME evening!

Tinsel Down Queen 👑. I started graying at 18. I'm the baby girl of 12, 3 brothers under me and I'm grayer than any of them even the 71 year old. Still haven't embraced her yet and I'm 58. I should embrace her because I cannot color her, tragically allergic also to relaxers Soo I've been natural FOREVER. I think she ages me. EVERYONE says she's GORGEOUS and don't change a thing even my friends who color weekly, a lil exaggeration, HOWEVER they have been coloring for years and continue to. Thank you Linwood, perhaps I'll begin to reign, with your guidance, as an openly Gray 👑 Queen. Oh btw, my hair is actually silver so I call her Tinsel Down Queen.

The women in my family are genetically predisposed to early “silver” hair. I started embracing my my natural hair in my 50’s and that included stopping the “coloring.” Now at 64, I have a natural full head of a graduated medium silver to light(not quite white). My hair is fine/low density/high porosity;…I recently started using L’Oreal’s Hibiscus line. It’s a nutrilizer for yellow/brassy tones and seems to work for my silver hair. I also use Professional moisturizing shampoos, conditioners and styling products(Giovanni is a an “old school “ that’s been on the shelf for years.)as well as Ayurvedic oils and herbs and conditioner specifically for my hair type.
