I've come to love hyacinths in the last year. I bought 2 back in 2020 (yellow and purple) cause I love tall stocks and bell shape flowers. It reminded me of wolves bane and I love it. But the smell is my favorite thing about them, they can make the entire room smell amazing. When they stopped bluming, I put them in a cupboard (pot and all) and actually forgot about them. When I moved out of my apartment in january, I saw that they had new growth lol. Thanks for the video.

Bought some at the store last year. After they were done blooming I took them outside and planted them. Very warm weather made them come out this January but after that the freeze came so I took them out of the ground and brought them inside again. The ones I got two years ago and planted in the garden were “smart” enough not to come out in January, they are coming out just now.

Once dehead the plant and the leaves can I leave the bulb in the planter and place it in the shed? Bring it out when spring begins?
@balconiagarden7 ай бұрын
Hi Yesenia, yes you can. I've done that many times and the bulbs always flowered the following season. Just be aware that the flower display might not be as showy as the year you bought the bulbs since bulbs can sometimes lose vigor. Some people decide to recycle their bulbs and buy new every season, I try to make them last as many seasons as possible 😜

Can i plant these flower bulbs in california weather?
@balconiagarden3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ae Ro, I did a little it of research about planting hyacinths in California and it generally depends where you live if they'll grow well. Coastal and mountain areas where the temps are lower are the best for hyacinths as they are cool weather plants and in warmer temperatures they won't flower well and will probably only last one season. If you live in a hotter part of California and still want hyacinths I'd suggest planting them in pots so you're more flexible, you can move the pots around and even bring them into a cool part of your home if the temps get too high. You could also force your hyacinths rather than planting them in the soil and waiting for them to emerge in spring. Either way, good luck!

Hey..can u pls help me.. I have this plant..and it's has flowers right now...but now after somedays.its leaf is also slowly dying..is that comon or not..pls answer..
@balconiagarden2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, it's normal for the plant to eventually die back, however if the plant is healthy and then suddenly the leaves die then the bulb could have root rot. Check the bulb for mould and make sure the bulbs aren't sitting in water. Good luck 👍

Whats the temperature for these flowers?
@balconiagarden7 ай бұрын
Hi Michelle, hyacinths thrive in temps between 15 and 21 degrees C. They are hardy cool season plants so they can also easily withstand colder temperatures. Higher temps also speed up flower life so if you want your blooms to last longer, try putting them in a cooler part of your growing space. Just a quick note, hyacinth bulbs need at least 12 to 15 weeks of temps between 4 and 7 C to flower properly over autumn and winter so if you're growing from bulbs, keep that in mind. Hope that helps 😊

Hi there. Does is matter if the roots start appearing out the bottom? Do I have to repot? Thanks 😊
@balconiagarden3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rex, it's not essential but you'll be helping your bulbs out if you do. They'll be stronger and healthier overall and will probably bloom for longer, plus when they move to the growth stage they'll be able to take up and store more nutrients for next season's growth. Good luck 👍
@stratosaurusrex33993 жыл бұрын
Balconia Garden cheers! My ones are in the cold and dark at the moment. The reason I asked is because I spotted the one in the blue square pot in this video. 2:28 It’s really confusing because on gardeners world website it also says you only need to pot on a 5cm layer of soil if planting individually for indoors. Which isn’t much space for it to send down roots at all. 🤯

I love this plant but never knew how to care for them. Now after seeing your video, wish was very informative. I have mine outside already, it had not opened yet. Purchased at the nursery and it was outside next to the tulips. Will it survive or should I just purchase another one and keep indoors until it bloom?
@balconiagarden3 жыл бұрын
Hello @roots2aGarden I'm glad the video helped you 😀 hyacinths are spring-flowering bulbs so they prefer the cooler temps and your plant will be absolutely fine outside. The growing and flowering process will take longer outside because its colder. What I would do is buy another hyacinth and place this one inside so you can enjoy the smell and it's beauty 😍 it's also interesting to compare the two bulbs and see how the different growing conditions influence the plants' growth. Hope that helps you! 🙂💚

@@balconiagarden Update, I purchased another Hyacinth pink this time and kept it inside. OMG, 😊the fragrance is amazing and it has bloomed in 24 hours. Is this normal? My home temperatures usually around 70 to 72 inside. The other purple one I have outside same amazing smell but did not show anything different for days. I checked outside this morning and slowly it's beginning to open. I will look at your other videos to learn more. Thank you and I did subscribe. Happy Easter to you and your family. Take care.

My Hyacinth has bloomed but they're all leaning and don't stand up on their own. Is this normal or how would you recommend I care for it?
@balconiagarden Жыл бұрын
Hello, it could be the hyacinth isn't getting enough light so it's elongated it's stem towards the light and in doing that the stem became spindly and therefore not able to support the weight of the flower spike. It could also be that the spike was so heavy that it pulled the stem over which is common for hyacinths. If the flowers are done I would cut the stem off and allow the bulb to keep photosynthesising by placing it in full sun so it tank up on food for next season 🙂
@danielpedigo723 жыл бұрын
I have a question guys. My hyacinths are growing at different rates which I presume is because the newest addition is from the store and was already blooming. Anyway, my first 2 hyacinths have decent leaf development and are growing well, but haven't bloomed yet. I didn't force them to grow either. I had them stored in a cupboard from last year still in the pot and they just started growing around january in the cupboard. One started to blume but it was close to my grow lights and the petals got burnt. Anyway, the other one hasent bloomed at all and the one that got burnt hasent made any new blooms. Do they naturally bloom later in the year unlike the forced ones on the store? Or will mine just not bloom this year? Im okay with either, I just thought they'd have small stocks by now.
@balconiagarden3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel. There are a few reason why hyacinths don't rebloom the following year when stored in pots. First is they didn't store enough energy the previous growing season through photosynthesis and are now having a break this season. Producing blooms is very energy intensive for the bulb and you might have noticed that after flowering the hyacinth bulbs become smaller and more shrivelled as a result. Second is the soil isn't rich enough for the roots to grow strong, hyacinths rely on a strong root system to grow and flower. You could repot them in new compost and see what happens. Third is they need more water but not too much that they sit in it and rot. You could also try adding a fertiliser to encourage flower growth. It could be that the stalks are going to come but normally the flowers and leaves emerge at the same time. Hope some of that helps and let me know how you get on!
@danielpedigo723 жыл бұрын
@@balconiagarden okidoki. The one that has a stock had a few blooms but it got sun burnt by the grow light for my cacti. But its stock is bigger so maybe itll grow some blooms later and just have a shorter blooming season this year. But ill try some fertilizer. They are in the same dirt they had last year so they could just be a little low on energy. I did have them outside in their pots last year so they had full sun exposure but it could be a soil problem.

@balconiagarden3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ahmed, are your hyacinths still flowering? If they're finished flowering it could be the growth cycle of the bulb is coming to an end and the leaves are dying back. Totally normal. Remember to water the bulbs and place in full sun 🌞

Hi Tanya, oo shame about your hyacinth. Try putting your hyacinth in full sun if its flowering and water it enough for the soil to be moist but not sitting in water. It could be you got a bad bulb and if that's the case, then unfortunately there's not much you can do. Good luck!
