Lucky I got on to your Miltoniopsis video. I have one coming tomorrow and it still gets below 10c for the next couple of early spring weeks so it will come inside at night with the baby paphs. I live in Maryborough so on hot summer days it might need to come inside to the bathroom for a few hours. Thanks!

@@helloplantlovers i kept my Miltoniopsis outside under cover and it still died during the Sydney winter. So next time i will keep it indoors. Maybe in the bathroom or kitchen

When I purchased my first miltoniopsis, she was a no i.d. So thank you because we have the same Orchid, I had no idea what her name was. Kelly Spangled Banner. When I bought her she had 2 flower spikes now in my care she has 7! I'm freaking out 🤗 I'm new to Orchid growing but I'm keeping my Zygo and Miltoniopsis together. From what I've researched they like the same conditions... Cool nights, humidity, never let dry out. I have 3 newer growths on my Zygo so I really hope I can get her to bloom for me as well. Those first 2 spikes on my miltoniopsis are starting to open, ucan't wait to she's in full bloom the show will be breathtaking. I'm hovering over her like a helicopter everyday to see what's progressed. (Any one else a hover-parent)? Haha 😆 But thank you for your knowledge also I'm a new subscriber
@helloplantlovers3 жыл бұрын
Oh how fantastic!!!! Miltoniopsis can sure be vigorous if they're happy! I've found Zygo's can take slightly colder temps so mine are outside all year whilst the Miltoniopsis are inside for winter. Good luck...I'm sensing you're hooked!

Thanks for watching! It can get hot here too in summer - just keep them in the coolest spot you can and plenty of humidity. I splosh water about on the floor where they are outside undercover on particularly hot days. Or keep it indoors. Good luck!

Hi, Matthew! I discovered your channel recently and I love it! Thank you! Quick question. I have my Miltoniopsis on the window sill of my cold bathroom. Now, it's winter in Canada, the temperature is 11-15 C and humidity is 60-90%. Should I water it?
@helloplantlovers9 ай бұрын
Hi there - thanks for finding me! Yes absolutely! Miltoniopsis don’t like to dry out. So saying, ease up the watering in winter - don’t keep it damp. About once a week should suffice - depends upon your conditions though - good luck!

Mine has those yellow/brown concentric spots too. I wasn't sure if it was sunburn or rot. Glad it's sunburn... that i can fix easily compared than rot.
@helloplantlovers3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Very sensitive to sun....AND cold! Mine have similar burns from being in the chilly outdoors for too long last winter!
@scourt85784 жыл бұрын
Thanks again! I've been looking at adding a Miltoniopsis but was worried about the cold -- have you considered trying phragmipediums or paphiopedilums too? I've seen some people claim to grow them outdoors down to 2'C in winter and up to 40'C in summer!
@helloplantlovers4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I do have paphiopedilums and in fact bought TWO identical ones so I could try one outside all winter and one inside. The inside one flourished and bloomed, the outside one didn't die but certainly didn't flourish and didn't bloom. So I've bought that one inside and it looks much happier! And as long as they're in shade I've found them able to deal with 40oC+ too! I do put them outside in summer in quite deep shade - and I did make a video about the experiment! M

Hi I'm in Sydney i would like to know how often you are watering the Miltoniopsis in the terracotta pots do you leave a saucer of water under the pot, I know terracotta is so wicking so can dry out very quickly .
@helloplantlovers Жыл бұрын
It does dry out quickly and that can be a problem as I might not be as diligent as I need to be with my Miltoniopsis; hence concertina leaves! Yes I have saucers and I try to water every three days in summer if it’s warm.
@korinaslack-smith2992 Жыл бұрын
@@helloplantlovers Thank you for your reply I appreciate it i have just added these to my collection so i hope i don't kill them. I like Terracotta like you i wish i could paint and decorate them but no you cant .I watered mine yesterday and repotted yesterday when i got them in a mix of small bark perlite and charcoal and moss mixed in and today they were dry so looks kike i have to water daily it has been very hot in Sydney

Hi can we grow Miltoniopsis in a terrarium in hot climates?
@helloplantlovers2 жыл бұрын
Oh....I couldn't answer that I'm afraid. They are a cool grower that need plenty of air movement, so I'd hazard a guess no. However if you can keep the temps down and if you've had success with other oncidium/miltonia type orchids in a terrarium than give it go! Good luck!

I love terra cotta pots too. How often do you water them?
@helloplantlovers3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Really depends upon what's in them and the season. Everything dries out much faster in summer. Good rule of thumb is either to feel the weight of the pot to gauge how dry it it or stick your finger in the medium and see how dry it is. Some things like to dry out completely before being watered, others need to never dry out.
