My daughter uses a smaller Alvey with a 7 foot rod so it's nice and light.

This is a little late, but I just got an Alvey Adventurer Combo with the 40GDZ reel and short 6 foot rod. While they say it is a kids rod, I think it is perfect for freshwater fishing on the lakes and reservoirs (which is what I use it for).
