To figure out the amount of yarn you will need with this cast on method, wrap the yarn around a pencil for the number of stitches you will require for your project. I like this method because it is fairly accurate for what you will need. Happy knitting!!

This is helpful because I must have missed it in the video where you are told why you need a really long tail. Suddenly the tail is at the end and I haven't cast on the number of stitches needed so had to start over. Thank you!!!!

Hello! I'm loving all of your videos. I'm a very new knitter and after watching the seed stitch video I had a few questions. I know how to cast on but what do you mean about casting on in multiples of two? For the seed stitch, does that mean casting on in a purl then knit pattern?
@studioknit8 жыл бұрын
Hi Kristen! Thanks so much. It just means to cast on as many stitches as you would like, 2 at a time. So, any even number of stitches works!!
@sueluvu9 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was looking for. Can this be used to make fingerless gloves?

You probably figured it out by now. I'm going to suggest the Thumb Long Tail CO. Much easier than this, Sling Shoot, method. I did the thumb method for years before I pulled the sling shoot method. Even some knitting celebrities like Staci Perry, and Vicki Howell do the thumb LT CO in their videos...
@TheSteelydanfan6 жыл бұрын
I am just the same. I do the other method of cast on too!!
@deannadavis24266 жыл бұрын
This is the method I use. But when I start my first row of knitting or purling onto the caston chain, I have a lot of slack. How can I explain this.... each knit, the string between the needles get longer, like there isn' enough tension. Am I doing something wrong? I know there is another cast on method, but can't seem to find it.

what do you do at the end with the extra string
@Pretzelthefrog7 жыл бұрын
An easy way to have the correct length of yarn for long tail cast on is... Take your yarn tie the two ends together. Bow decide which end will be your working end and cut the other. This eliviates too short of cast on tail Hope this hels

You didn't mention how much of the "tail" end you would need to make to cast on the appropriate amount of stitches. Any suggestion/instruction?
@studioknit9 жыл бұрын
Hi, D' Gypsy, and thanks for watching. I find that you just sort of get a 'feel' for how long to make your tail. As a general rule, make it about a quarter inch per stitch you will cast on. So, if you're casting on 20 stitches, that would be about 5 inches. Hope this helps!
@arlenepeil7694 жыл бұрын
Is the cast-on row counted as the first row of your project?

How do you hold that yarn between your two weakest fingers on your NON dominant hand??? are you left handed trying to show ppl how to do it that are right handed? Most ppl that are right handed can NO way hold that string so taut in their left hand. All it does is slip out of my fingers. Then I get cramps for holding my fingers so tight trying to hold on to the damn string! I think it is time to look at other ppl's tutorials.........grrrrrrrrrrrrrr........I have tried 10 times now. Am I the only lame person trying her technique?
