Thanks so much. This is the easiest explanation of this technique I've been able to find.

I know this video is ancient in terms of the internet, but if you still are active on this account, thank you so much!! I’ve knitted on and off since I was a kid and I was just trying to get back into it with the single loop method, but my last stitch would always have a horrible gap no matter how I did it. this is waaaay easier than the single loop method and I wish I’d been taught this first!!

eautumnz thank you! I’m not actually really still active on you tube... not that I ever really was, but I keep the videos up because every now and then people say thank you! So you’re welcome. Good luck!

Thank you. I have never been able to master this method despite my many years of knitting! I have always cast on using two needles...this is much quicker....and your video made it all so easy to follow.

Thank you Catherine. Perfectly explained. This is the only cast on method I always have to look up as I use this method the least I can never remember how to start.

I started to learn to knit Boxing day, this is the first time I have used a knitting pattern that asks you to cast on with your thumb. I've never done it before and your video is perfect 🥰. It's done at the right speed for absolute novices like me to follow. Thank you 😊

Thank you for this excellent instruction video. I can knit and purl but it's always been a struggle getting the stitches on the needle in the first place!

Excellent, I did this as a child but couldn’t remember. I’m now making a cardigan that says, cast on using thumb method.

Brilliantly helpful thank you! Very clearly explained and demonstrated, and at just the right speed - not too fast, not too slow. I have always used two needles but it is always too tight and I kept meaning to look up the thumb method. This explains and demonstrates it perfectly, makes it super easy - thank you! 👏❤️

Hi my name is Rhonda Roeper I really love your video video but I was wondering if you could explain to me step-by-step really slowly how you are doing the dumb method cast on because I cannot see on the screen I am visually impaired so again I need you to tell me step-by-step how you are doing the Tom method cast on because I cannot see what you were doing on the screen thank you

Great explanation. My pattern says use this method. Can't for the life of me work out why one would use a thumb instead of 2 needles. My casting on with 2 needles is so neat.

Thank you for a great demonstration of how to cast the n. This is the way I am going to do it. I hope you can advise me about something I am struggling with. When a pattern says, "end with a wrong side row". How do I know what is ending with a wrong side row? Is it the wrong side of the piece facing me or the wrong side of the piece on the outside as I hold the needles ready to knit a row? Thank you so much.
@tinyk68
@tinyk68 3 жыл бұрын
It means that the last row you knit would be with the wrong side facing you. You then follow the next set of instructions beginning with the right side facing you.

@@tinyk68 Thank you so much. I have searched YT looking for this explanation but there isn’t one. I have struggled with this for all my knitting life. It’s only since the internet that I have found out. A million thanks Tina.

What stich do you use for ist row
@catherinehawtin8673
@catherinehawtin8673 2 жыл бұрын
That’s just your cast on row, so just continue as per your pattern. It’ll probably be a knit row. It’ll say something like ‘cast on …. stitches, then starting with a K row, st st / rib for …. rows. ‘ Hope that makes sense!

Did you say I need to learn how to knit before learning how to cast on? Casting on is the first step in knitting! I'm so confused and frustrated
@kayceegreer4418
@kayceegreer4418 Жыл бұрын
So then it's a long tail cast on by thumb method I'm confused...we're not even very far in the video and I am frustrated learning to knit. I went out and bought some needles that are kind of medium large-ish and same like the perfect size and kind of pointy which I hear is good and I've watched a million videos and I know there's a million ways to cast on, but I was looking for a simple,very simple cast on because I've never knitted before and I want to. I know that there is a thumb cast on that does not require having a long tail or measuring diddly squat. Just load up the needle and get goin'.

That doesn’t follow. The suggestion is to get a friend to cast on for you so you can learn the basic knit stitch. This is often done for children learning to knit. THEN, having mastered that, casting on or off will follow. Much easier to practice and gain confidence that way. This video is clear and the poster understands the frustration of trying to learn two things at once.

Jennifer Skinner I don’t have a friend to ask. You don’t learn two things at once you learn in ORDER like anything else you learn. Know one teaches step 2 then step 1 😂😭 Step 1 cast on. Step 2 knit stitch.

I learned to knit at 9 years of age. I learned to cast on at 17. Any time I wanted to knit, my mother would have to cast on for me 😂
