It’s not uncommon for rabbits to wander onto your property in search of food, water, and shelter. Having rabbits can cause damage to your property or even health issues. In this video, we’ll go over how to identify rabbits, how to trap them using professional live traps, and ways to prevent them from coming back.
Rabbits are known for their floppy ears and bushy tails. They can grow to be between 14 and 19 inches long, and generally weigh between 2-4 pounds. If you suspect you may be dealing with rabbits, look for common signs that indicate rabbit activity.
Rabbits will come around looking for food, around the hours of dusk and dawn, and will eat most types of vegetation. They’ll eat fruits, vegetables, shrubbery, flowers, and even ornamental plants. Check all vegetation on the property for any signs of chewing or eating.
Rabbits will also tend to nest nearby any food or water sources, so be on the lookout for any bowl-shaped nests of fur, leaves, and grass.
After identifying your pest animal, select the best bait to increase your chances of a successful capture. Rabbits will prefer crunchier fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, or lettuce.
Before trapping, make sure you put on your personal protective equipment, or PPE. Especially gloves, not only to protect yourself when setting the trap or releasing an animal, but it will also prevent you from transferring your scent to the trap or bait, which will dissuade rabbits from approaching.
In order to maximize our chances of catching the rabbit, we need to remove food sources that may compete with our bait. This includes picking up pet food after dark, fencing away fruit and vegetable gardens, and sweeping up fallen fruits, berries, and seeds.
Place your live trap far away from human or pet activity, along the edge of your property. Physical boundaries like fence lines, dense foliage, and garden edging make great placement guides, so set your trap along such structures.
Once you are satisfied with your trap placement, you can bait and arm it. Check your trap twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Constantly being near the trap and checking it often will potentially dissuade rabbits from approaching the trap. Do not keep an animal trapped for more than 24 hours.
After you’ve successfully used your live trap, there are a few preventative measures you can take to make sure you do not have another animal problem. Maintaining a clean area indoors and outdoors is an important step to take. Prevent rabbits from entering your property by sealing any openings you may have found along the perimeter or foundation.
Be sure to visit our website for an in-depth guide and access to each of our products. We guarantee that these live traps and tips will help catch rabbits around your property, and we offer same day shipping to help you get control quickly.
Solutions is a small family owned business, and we rely on referrals from customers like you. So if you liked this how-to guide and when the products work for you, please share and tell your friends and family about us.
Thanks for watching!

Rabbits are naturally scared animals. They are scared of any small man-made enclosures unless raised in them and are highly cautious about going into traps. Can always try a couple different style traps. But the best advice is be patient. Leave trap open and start feeding the rabbit at the opening. Each day or two move the food a little closer in the opening of the trap and build his confidence. You don't want nothing snapping or popping and making him afraid of the trap to early, so make sure nothing about him being around or in the trap is scarey.. Then when you know he is feeding in the back of the cage, set the trap to snap closed.

Also, for rabbits and their small bunnies, do we use your small size or medium size? Last night our all the food was eaten from our small trap and the doors had snapped shut, but nothing inside. My husband's guess is that it could have been a big rabbit and he was able to back out of it. What do you think?
@solutionspestandlawn
@solutionspestandlawn 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, thanks for watching. Rabbits can be crafty, we'll give 'em that! It is possible that the trap was too small. Your best bet would be to use a medium-sized trap. That works pretty well for the slightly bigger critters like rabbits and bunnies. A plus to the medium trap is that the trap is deeper and there is more room behind the trigger plate. We suggest to try that and put the bait as far back as it can go so that the rabbit is forced to get its whole body inside the trap and trigger the trap reaching for the food. Another good tip is to remember to be patient! Trapping can take some time, especially with wily animals. Good luck!

My .22 pellet gun is going to replace the "release 20 miles away" part of this. Rabbit is super tasty. Quarter it, sear each leg on all exposed meat very quickly in a hot pan with a little oil or butter to seal in juices. Wrap each quarter in tin foil and make sure they're sealed. Put in the oven at 325 or so for 25 minutes. Super juicy, texture of perfectly cooked chicken. Squirrel can be done the same way. Season with salt and pepper as desired.

Seriously 20 miles away to release? We have nests of rabbits living under our shed. We'd have to trap them one by one and each time drive 20 miles to release them? Is this because they can find their way back up to 20 miles? And can you tell me how far we have to drive to release voles, chipmunks and squirrels? I lived in the country for 25 years and had beautiful gardens with no trouble at all from vermin. Our house burned down and the cause was from animals chewing on electrical wires! Now we've moved to the suburbs and I cannot keep a lawn or garden because of all these pests! All my flowers bulbs eaten, all the leaves of my flowers nibbled on, holes dug in my flower gardens and voles disappearing into holes so small I can't see them!

It always needs to be said that you must be aware of state laws. Rabbits and squirrels are regulated by most states (all?) DNR and you must have a license or permit to trap or otherwise dispatch these animals. If you get caught, you will face a fine or have to go to court (hunting/trapping without license, or out of season). It's also illegal to release many animals in which case they are required to be euthanized. Check your local and state laws before proceeding.

3:16 Not sure i agree with that part. They will obviously want your name so they know what to call you. You can't be mr.anonymous. They will want your address or at least county, to confirm the laws in your area regarding whatever it is you are doing as well as your telephone # to get in contact with you once they supposedly have the information. So you went from being some anonymous guy going on a nice drive and letting an animal go so it's not a pest in your area to something potentially much worse, and they won't know until they do an investigation.

Be careful relocating! Check your local DNR or wildlife facilities because relocation of animals can spread disease from one territory to another! Which can lead to a hefty fine if you get caught. And unnecessary deaths of the rest of the animals. Here in Michigan it can be illegal to relocate certain animals due to the possibility of the spread of disease from one boundary to another. If an animal is destroying property, we are asked to either release it back on the property (silly), euthanize on site or have them come out and take care of it-but they will charge. So don’t EVER relocate before calling your local DNR to find out what to do! You do not have to be anonymous or hide your info, they will help you because this is what they do! Another tip from the DNR: STOP FEEDING THE ANIMALS unless you are willing to control their numbers on your property! Feeding them can cause population explosion which can cause disease spread, homelessness for the animals, which leads to property destruction and eventually horrible and unnecessary deaths to the animals. Eventually they will need more food to feed all the extra mouths and you won’t be able to keep up with that so just leave them be.

if u catch and release a rabbit somewhere else it can stress it out as most rabbits live in the same area their entire lives, causing the rabbit to be easily caught by predators or even getting hit on the road.

I'll have to go back to look for that. If there is one, I'd suggest they can't find their rebel flag or swastika, other armed enemies of the United States of America. An enemy is an enemy. North Korean, 30s German, ISIS, Confederate States of America..... all those flags mean the same thing to the principles of this country.

Rabbits can carry ticks, fleas,worms. They're like a vegetarian rat honestly. I found over 3 species of ticks and counted over 7 ticks in five inches area on one rabbit, during the summer. Best to hunt/eat during winter.
