I remember when big ounce found a baby owl in my backyard. He single-handedly raised it and released it. We contacted our local game warden and he said that Mr. Ounce could receive his very own wildlife rehab permit. So proud!

I was trained by a family friend from All Things Wild! Its so weird to see and hear about it from this perspective, I would of definitely worked there if it wasn't so far and I wasn't moving away so soon. When I was a kid I stayed with my cousins in Baton Rouge. My uncle had great horned owls, screech owls, redtail hawks, etc. We used to feed Tallan (the great horned owl) chicken necks. She mostly sat on a perch in the living room, but they'd take her out and fly her several times a week. Eventually they had to let her go, and she followed us across town when we moved and hooted outside of my cousins window for weeks before finally going off on her own.

Hey Ben, I've seen zoos and other rehab places use white spot stickers on their glass so that birds cant get injured from confusion. Maybe you could try putting those on the restricted mobility crates

Oh neat. They use a kennel similar to what we use for the rabbits. It's handy cause any of their urine or feces will fall through the small holes down into the 2nd layer where we usually have some bedding to soak it up. That way they aren't always stepping on their nasty stuff if it leaks through the bedding on the 1st layer. It's a lot of washing though. I get up at 5 to be there at 6 to clean and feed before classes start at 8. Tough to stay awake when you're already worn out.

Nice to see the other re-hab facilities...and the critters they are helping out. Btw, the Elf Owl is our smallest North American owl...after that is the Pygmy Owl, Ferruginous Owl, Saw Whet Owl...all of them tinier than the Screech Owl.
