Glad your back! I love your videos. So I was fly fishing in a spring fed river earlier in the spring and nobody in the camp ground was catching anything. I decided to put a lure on a bait casting rod after 2 days of being skunked. Second cast I caught a HUGE brown trout. The guy camping next to us saw me catch it and later told me I was "cheating". Thanks for teaching me how to cheat! Much more fun.

Great video and info! I just subscribed. I do have a couple of questions, what size Inline Single Replacement Hooks are you using on your SR-5 and which size PLUSINNO Fishing Net do you use 11.8" or 19.7"? Thanks in advance!
@OLDHATOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact size but it's for sure not the 11.8" so I'd go with the other one.

And regarding the hood I use both size 8 and 6. Most of my raps have size 6 though.

Great video and super informative! Thank you. Do you switch out your treble hooks to single hooks for catch and release purposes or is that a rule on the Boise River?
@OLDHATOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. It’s not required on this stretch but I do like how it is easier on the fish and hook ups are similar to if not better than trebles.
@dgroves85 Жыл бұрын
Awesome thank you. I’ve been getting out some lately locally near where I live on the Boise River learning how to trout fish again. And on July 26th I caught a 19 1/4-19 1/2 inch Brown. My very first Brown on the river. And then last week I caught an 18 1/4 inch rainbow. Anyways I’ve been want to capitalize on the fishery near me. I came across this video and thought I would give some Rapalas a try. They’re hard to find locally. I guess I’ll have to order some from Tackle Warehouse online.

@@OLDHATOUTDOORSThanks! I was pretty stoked to have that type of success. Meanwhile my father in law has been skunked every time on the Boise. I shared this video with him. So he went out and bought some Rapalas. Every time I go into Cabelas they’re always out of the right colors in the SR5’s.

@@OLDHATOUTDOORSI have a question for you. How often do you catch Pikeminnows on the Boise River?
@RCRracing5160 Жыл бұрын
What’s the best live bait? I should be drifting the Boise river with right now. On a float rig
@OLDHATOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
What do you mean by live bait? Live minnows are not allowed in Idaho. You could use worms if you'd like to use bait.

What brand are those inline hooks? I've never had a bad batch from Mustad or Gama
@OLDHATOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
I've used hooks from a company on Amazon called Laxygo for the past 3 years. Never had 1 problem. Unfortunately I buy packs of like 30-50 so I'll toss all the ones I have as to not risk it with future hook ups.

I fish in town a lot but during the main floating season I usually go downstream of most of the floaters. More peaceful that way. However, a majority of my fishing the rest of the year is right in town.

Hey Chad. Welcome to Eagle! There's some great fishing to be had in that area with a lot of rainbows and browns! I will be out of the country until mid September and then I'll be trying to shoot an elk but I will be more free as it gets closer to winter (after the browns spawn). If you are able, please reach out via Facebook or instagram and shoot us a message.

The fly shops in the area are incredibly helpful. I prefer Idaho Angler off Vista Ave. In town, nymphing is key. Euro or indicator with perdigons through deep slots with right water speed.
