Also appreciated your focus on spin/bait fishing and not fly fishing which is most of what I can find when searching for info re: Boise River fishing. Mostly this video confirmed that I don't need to do anything fancy to fish with the kids locally; just a nice standard trout set up and walk the river for good spots!

Tell me a little more about the deadstick method. I like fishing with spinners and crankbait. This deadstick method sounds like something I could do along with casting. Thanks!
@SilhouetteOutdoors
@SilhouetteOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Tyler Nix with the 2 pole permit it is a great tactic to have in your arsenal! Or to fish two dead stick poles in different directions to cover more area. I used colored marshmallows growing up for years and so many times I would get a bite and next thing i knew my marshmallow was floating away. And I realized it was more to keep your bait off the bottom and an attractant, not so much that trout are addicted to marshmallows.. So I started using the corkies with the dead stick. Some reservoirs like Horsethief where there’s lots of moss on the bottom it is dynamite! Using this method in a deep hole in a river is great where the water is too deep to effectively get a spinner down to. It just really doubles up your chances to catch fish and an opportunity to try different methods. Thanks so much for watching and good luck on the water!

This video was actually taken late winter/early spring while the water level was low. So this is the prefect time to use those tactics. When it get's really cold, the fish tend to be a bit more lethargic and stay in the deeper holes and that dead stick method with the corky works pretty good. It allows more time to keep your hands warm too!

I was lucky enough to spend all of my childhood summers at Magic Reservoir and my grandpa was a great teacher. Fly fishing is an entirely different beast than drift fishing, drowning worms. It takes years to perfect fly fishing. But I wouldn't be apposed to showing some basic tips and gear to get started some time down on the river in town. There is a learning process, some catch on faster than others. We live in a great state for it and anyone can learn to fish.

selrod55 the corkie is just another great tactic in case the half worm drifting doesn’t work. Works really great still fishing in reservoirs and ponds as well. And yes, the limit is actually 6. Anything over 20 inches is considered a steelhead. So you have to have a steelhead permit on the Boise River. Because they plant steelies in the river periodically. Good luck on the water!

Most of the Boise river is 6 trout any size. But, when fish and game plants steelhead in the river, any rainbow trout over 20 inches is considered a steelhead and you need a steelhead permit to retain them. They also have special rules up stream from the Parkcenter bridge, so I highly recommend reading the regulations if you fish that stretch of river, tight lines..

The tail end of that hole just 15 yards down river is actually a better spot than that concrete block. But many times there are guys fishing there. That drift method works really good from the opposite side of the river (north side). And the nice thing about that is you can start at the top of the hole and work your way down to the end of it just above the bridge. Plan on wading out in the water for sure. But thats a great way to stay cool in the summer and catch a ton of fish!!

@@rickhoward1516 That's why I really like hole hoping. Throw on some river shoes and shorts, hike and wade big sections of the river. Time of year makes a big difference in best times to fish many of those holes. I personally like the high and fast moving water of the summer. And make no mistake, there are a lot of big fish in there that you wouldn't imagine. There are giant brown trout well over 10 lbs that you just wont ever catch with typical methods. They wont even look at a worm. They are after minnows, mice, etc.. Right now is prime time though, as soon as the air cools down, the fish try to feed up for the long cold winter. I've fished the south channel up stream from Eagle road and have done well! Right behind the Water Treatment Plant I've caught a few rainbows over 20 inches there. But, I always fished during the winter when the river flows were low. It's pretty much all private property on both sides and you have to be able to stay in the river and wade up to the good holes.. There is decent fishing at the Star bridge just up stream in that deep hole where everyone swims. There are small mouth bass in there also. I do much better in Boise during high water.

Thank you!! Happy to help! That drift method is deadly when you get it nailed down and the corky method works in pretty much any pond or lake as well. We'll have some more tutorials this spring for other species as well. If the weather will ever cooperate... Good luck on the water!!

Casting at about 45-deg UPSTREAM you will achieve a deeper, longer, and more NATURAL drift, and your presentation will spend more time in the feeding lanes where larger trout can inspect it.

Glennwood bridge. The river is really blown out now, so it likely doesn't look the same.

Great video, but hard to understand your voice in spots. Microphone needs to be closer to you.

Dan Seibel appreciate the feedback! The audio on the go pro in the case isn’t very good. It’s a good excuse for an upgrade. Good luck on the water!

NO.. It was too expensive for the fish i wanted to catch, ha, ha! I just confuse them now by asking to catch fish that don't live in that water I'm fishing to hopefully lower their guard..
