I’m 67 years young, as a kid can remember using Zebco 33 rell and rod with a swivel, and a rooster tail. Dad be in front running trolll motor and me in back. Learned to throw behind the boat towards the shore to make sure it would spin. Always caught fish.

Randy do not tell anybody but here in Texas I catch plenty of largemouth bass with a 1/16 oz rooster tail of which the biggest being five pounds. Most of the time they run abut two to three pounds in the ponds and creeks I fish here in Houston. Keep up the great content

Rooster tail and Mepps in-line spinners were some of my first lures. I still catch smallies on the Mepps Agalia on the Potomac, Susquehanna rivers and Raystown lake. Great lures for the kids to fish with.

In my own experience, I've discovered a good time to use the rooster tail. While the bass are chasing shad, I've had the topwater covered, but had a difficult time getting them to hit ANYTHING below the surface. But, for some reason they will hit the rooster tail when nothing else seems to work.

Oh man rooster tails were my go to bait as a kid and I’m not ashamed to admit it but there’s times now when that’s all I’ll use and they work!! Now I’ve never caught no trophy fish on it yet but I’m here to tell you I’ve caught several 3-4 pounders and even we’ll over 5lbs and no guy’s it hasn’t all been in ponds my home lake here in Ky at Laurel River Lake I’ve caught some nice bass and I have great confidence in it too!! Man, thanks Randy for shedding some light on this bait that a lot of people just overlook!! Great video brother it definitely took me back to my childhood and brought back some great memories of me and my brothers fishing!! Thanks again Randy!!

Take it to the Flint River in GA. Chartreuse with a gold blade. You will smoke the large mouth, spots, and shoal bass.

Everytime me and my wife go fishing that's what I put on for her to throw because it's easy for her to cast and all she has to do is reel.. and over the last couple of years she would rather fish that bait most times and then other baits, she's even incorporate a own retrieves and we fish on Logan Martin which as you know is a big coosa River spotted Bass Lake and she smashes them on the rooster tail! She throws it on a 7-2 medium spinning rod so she can get it way out there and she's even Incorporated her own different retrieves and literally smashes them.. as a matter of fact we finish the tournament last weekend and she culled two of our fish using a rooster tail. 🤣

Honest fact: i have absolutely slayed the bass on in line spinners and have never caught a single bass on any of the traditional bass spinner baits...and thos absolutely pains me. I want to fish the regular spinner baits but i seriously don't have any luck on them but the in line is absolutely killer! I slay largmouth mostly on it and its absolutely one of my number one confidence baits, you seriously cant beat it! Like, somtimes its the only thing you can get bite on! I highly encourage you to throw this bait more, it'll definitely surprise you!

Been catching bass on Rooster Tails since the mid 70’s. I was raised a wester stream trout fisherman starting in the 60’s and rooster tails were one of my main lures. Then I fished a small river with trout & largemouth and the largemouth ate them up! Had them in my tackle and boat ever since.

A roostertail, or any inline spinner, is simply a fantastic tool for catching a wide range of species. I have caught largemouth approaching 3 lb on them, and smallmouth, like you said, are drawn to them as well. I tend to do a slow-roll type retrieve though, as slow as possible while the blade will still turn. Great lure for beginners and experts alike

I love throwing an inline spinner for largemouth and smallies. Look up the Mepps Bronze Slammer inline spinner. It's fairly new and will catch them.

I recently bought a 1 oz Roostertail, white with black spots. I want to see what happens with it in the saltwater but I should try it for bass in Lake Norman and local ponds. I caught 3 bass on smaller Roostertails in a pond, so hopefully the big one will get bigger bass.

I found rooster tail in tree it had no feathers so i put deer hair on it it is 1/4 oz with red thread and put glow in dark on it and put uv coat on it it works

A friend of mine fished with a local pro at our local lake. The pro threw a heavy version of the Rooster tail in 3/4 or 1 oz. Slow rolled it deep in clear winter water. He had a good catch. In many ways the big Rooster Tail looks like a spy bait almost.

I fish the Panther Martin 1/4 oz inline spinners, same deal, these things catch anything from large mouth to crappies to pickerel....though I haven't used the Rooster Tail as much lately....
