That's what I'm looking for in fishing - simplicity. I've been through , float, feeder, lure fishing, flyfishing but I miss old days, when all I needed was a fishing rod, a piece of bread and my father company :) This summer I'll try carp stalking and surface fishing for carp. Thanks for posting!

Imagine having all this incredible gear and technology in 1985 when I started Carp fishing.But when it all boils down to it I was using mashed bread, float or simple bottom fishing techniques and looking for opportunist ways of catching the Carp. I caught a 29lb Mirror in 1985 on float fished bread. Things always to come full circle and with stealth, water craft and patience it's still the same.

100% the best and most exciting way to catch carp imo. I would say almost half of the carp i have ever caught will have being surface caught even my pb was off the top . Nothing better than getting carp feeding well on the top and watching them take that hookbait. It all started for me when i visited my dad in egham and 5 minutes down the road from his house was thorpe lea, i was only 19 i think never caught a carp in my life lol. My dad taught me fly fishing from a young age so we where just trout fishermen. But when my dad moved down south he had started fishing thorpe lea so when i visited he wanted me to try carp fishing. After 2/3 hours sat behind the alarms i got restless and went for a walk around and found a good size group of carp in a bay just cruising the surface. So i hurried back to my dad to tell him and he set me a surface rod up , i caught my first ever carp that day along with about 20 others what a day. The next day i wanted to go back and do it again my dad took me but i took my fly rod aswell as my dads carp rods . Anyway the carp where still in this bay in the sun and i cast a super glued mixer in to the free Offerings with my fly rod it never took long until i hooked my first carp on a fly rod 🙈 oh my days what a scrap i had with it must have being 30 minutes easy it was unreal. From a carp virgin the day before to landing 20 odd my first day then the next day about the same but landing a 15lbs plus mirror on a fly rod was unforgettable. I came home and found carp lakes around me to fish all i really knew was surface fishing so in the warmer months i would just really fish on the top. Over the years i learned about bottom fishing and zigs but by far still my favourite method of catching carp is off the top.

Absolutely the way to do it. We’ve been doing it since before this kid was born. The chucking sticks, bait boats and buzzers have all got their place but they are a he says not the only way to catch carp. I bought that kind of set up many years ago , used it twice and said sorry not for me. Few floaters, and a float rod with a bit of meat,corn, or whatever. Bit of stalking and free lining… perfect

It is exciting to watch the carp take your floater.In the old days late 70s early 80s we never had most the carp gear that's available today we called it heavy legering for carp we had to learn for ourselves.

Great vlog karl. One thing that you did not mention is polerized glasses, are cheap one's any good? or is the differance between cheap and expensive not that much? Which would you recomend? Thanks in advance.
@AndrewFishman5 жыл бұрын
Good quality glasses are paramount. Cheap ones have all sorts of issues with lens ripple and stuff. Yes, the difference can be quite a lot between cheap and good. But it is worth the money.

@@AndrewFishman Thank you Andrew. Any one in particular you would recommend ?
@AndrewFishman5 жыл бұрын
@@baldvale5418 I wear a pair of Makos. Have had them for about 15 years, they are polarised and photchromatic transition lenses and are brilliant on either bright sunny days, or low light overcast. However, any reputable sunglass manufacturer these days has good quality polarised sunglasses. Maui Jim, Revo, Serengeti, Oakley and Rayban all do quality polaroids. You will probably find other good sunglasses, but like I said, the cheap and nasty ones are just that.
@AndrewFishman5 жыл бұрын
@@baldvale5418 The biggest recommendation I can make is in colour. Amber/brown for freshwater, Grey for salt. This is because of the different refraction quality of salt vs fresh.

What you UK guys call "floater" fishing is using a bobber here in the US but if your talking bread on top of the water... Well we call that a "topwater bread" bite here in the States.
@slipalongtobascus995 жыл бұрын
We have 'float' fishing and 'floater' fishing, two different things. Float, uses a float, like a bobbin and line hangs down in water to a certain depth. 'Floater' fishing is floating line on the surface, using bread or dog biscuits as a floating bait.

Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats kzbin.infoUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU recommend they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.
@garethedwards51594 жыл бұрын
It's a shame a lot (maybe most?) fisheries these days ban surface fishing, and force people to use massively overgunned rods and line in small commercial carp puddles of only a couple of acres in size. Fishery near me lets you use a feeder rod on their pleasure pool, and i've had mid doubles out of it no problem at all on 6lb line. I'd be very confident of safely landing fish unto 20lb on that set up, as there are no snags. Their 'runs' water next to it, the average fish size is around 13lb, with a few sneaking over 20lb (biggest 22lb), and yet no surface fishing, and 12lb minimum line and you must use 2.75t/c rods minimum. I guess they have to take into account people new to fishing who just jump right in to 'carping' but haven't actually learnt the basics of fishing through pleasure fishing first.

I will never buy one of these short carp rods.. atleast the long ones have a purpose... lure rods are much higher quality overall and if u own some already why buy a special short carp stick.. If u need a shorter rod just get a spinning rod.. go 8 foot (not 6, that short is useless most of the time).. and medium heavy.. 50 euro and u get a better rod then these scope ones.. Also bolt machine is nice but for the price i can get 10 floating sbirulino on aliexpress.. that do the same job.
