You have all those gadgets to check this and that and make it over complicated and also take the surprise element out of fishing. I used corn and caught a decent size channel fish today. No gadgets. Just trying different bait and waiting for the surprise of a bite. Makes fishing enjoyable and exciting old school instead of nerd fishing.

Beautiful cats, guys. I used to fish the Susquehanna River in Maryland and the biggest one, that I ever caught was about four lbs. (measured). And, believe it or not, I caught it just after a muggy summer midnight on a Rapala.

Bro If it's 15lb channel catfish turn it into the oklahoma wildlife office orr call a game warden because the state record in oklahoma was 14.4lb but you must catch it on rod and reel and you must have a vilad oklahoma fishing license

Different Red River😅

While this river is great you don't have to make a trip all the way out there to get on big cats! I am from Colorado and just put a show out catching fish just as big if not bigger. Having said that I LOVE this river and can't wait to get back out!
@Wired2Fish2 жыл бұрын
but what if this river is closer to someone than Colorado?

@@Wired2Fish is the sky blue? You go where it’s close or you drive 10 hours where it’s worth it! I use to think red river was the only place I could get big channels but it was red river and videos like this that got me to search places. :)

Few questions: How long are the leaders? They look pretty sort. Are leaders that short still good in water with better visibility? And what's that orange thing hanging down above the hook around the 4:10 mark.
@benolson27085 жыл бұрын
8-16” leaders are what I usually run. Haven’t noticed a huge success difference in various lengths. I would say water visibility wouldn’t effect length much either as the weight is usually buried into the bottom. As for the orange item is it a spinning bead with rattles in it. Sometime the added noise seems to really help!

The more current the shorter I run my leaders. But most of the time mine are 7-12inches

12 inch leader always.

How do you put suckers on your hook

Man you should of showed the view you was getting from your side imaging when you was passing that tree. You explained it then left us hanging lol. PS- those tall rod holders look like they could take a dip easily with your rod reel and fish attached to them

It really doesn't matter man, the world record largest catfish ever caught was a giant Chinese species of catfish. And it was over 600 lbs and it was caught on 30 lb Monofilament line. The whole idea that you need really heavy braided line for monster sized fish is BS and this used to be common knowledge too. Because before there was really heavy braided line most people were just using 30 lb monofilament for monster sized fish. And how they prevented the line from breaking was they would adjust their drag to only 20% of the lb test of their mainline and that would give them enough drag to reel in the fish but not break their line. My point here is that you don't need a really big reel with a really heavy line to catch monster sized fish. And honestly that was never a requirement to begin with because back in the day before braided line was invented most people never used anything over a 30 lb test monofilament mainline.
