Distinguishing their shadow is actually easier than shown here. There are sizes of fish 1 to 6. Sharks are size 6 but they have a fin so as soon as you see a fish that is the size of a shark but missing the fin it's the one you're looking for.

@@Luigimansion-kq7bb yeah the one that needs the rain or snow and between 4-9pm is the coelacanth only, the oarfish and tuna, which are also rare fish can be caught anytime, the tuna in winter and the oarfish in winter-spring

Here I am, walking down the beach and, what do I see! I lvl 6 shadow without a fin while it's raining! I get my fishing rod out, I cast my lane, I put the sound to the max and I close my eyes, waiting for the sound that will announce my victory. This is my new preferred method of fishing when not on the island. Using this I was able to nab 4 sharks, 3 saw sharks, 3 hammerhead sharks, 3 sunfish, and a coelacanth within about 50 minutes. Granted I only got the 1 Coelacanth with this method when that was my target fish, but that's still a pretty good haul. I usually have to go to the island at night to get a haul like that.

A few more pointers, if the trash fish are close to the shore you can press B to run by them and scare them away. I wouldn't recommend running up and down the beach though, since you could accidentally scare it off. If you're looking to make bells, catching huge fish and sharks will also bring in a lot of bells. I don't know if you can watch the rare bugs while it's raining, but if you can, do that as well!

Quick tip: to make it easier for rain/snow, travel to a winter day of the past year. This way, you won’t have the “wHeRe WeRe YoU” from the villagers, AND there is a higher chance that it will be snowing. :) I suggest late January for the best snow times

This'll sound crazy, but there will come a time in which you're absolutely annoyed at the sharks popping up in your bay. I keep finding them in lieu of the coveted coelacanth, and I understand in abundance they're more lucrative, but catching a coelacanth is like a rite of passage. And I need to catch another one... Hopefully, I'll catch one soon! And with your method, I doubt it will be too painful a task :)

Lmao, my game predicted the future. For a daily initiative, I got one to catch a Coelacanth cuz it was gonna rain that day. I’m like pff really? I’m not gonna catch that. Oh you pronounced it correctly in this video hahahaha. I'll just add that tapping the sprint button also scares the annoying fish away. You could also take your bug net to the beach too and scare the unwanted fish by tapping left/right on the d-pad and then hitting the water. This will save you a little bit more time over using your fishing rod to scare them away. I know it only saves a few seconds but if you have been looking for nearly 3 hours, as I have today, then those few seconds here and there can add up to quite a lot of minutes you could be spending fishing!

Boy was that a struggle! Sure, I might’ve confused a few sea bass shadows for the fish 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I was mostly getting confused with the tuna! I caught about maybe over five tuna bc their shadows are also very big a thin, I even caught an oar fish thinking it was the coelacanth. But anyways after all that, I ended up catching one😂 thanks for the video!
