I would personally recommend an Abu Garcia spinning reel, doesn't need to be anything fancy, the 30 dollar walmart one does pretty well, and an Ugly Stik rod, I prefer the 2 piece, and also prefer the 6 foot version, though I usually end up having to get the 6'6" version due to availability in store, both are medium action but the longer one is quite a bit stiffer, then I get a roll of 12lb Berkley monofilament, spool it up (not too much), and attach a snap swivel to the end, but get the black snap swivels and not the brass ones, the brass ones will come apart, and my personal favorite lures is Rat-L-Trap (don't remember which model), white swimbait, white swirly tail, and chartreuse yellow swirly tail. I fish in Kansas. But as for technique, that's just something that's acquired over time, gotta master the flick, I would definitely recommend watching a plethora of different KZbin videos with guys fishing, then just watch what they do, lotta great KZbin fishermen on here

I hope you enjoyed your time in my state! I remember as a kid I went to a fishing camp where we spent an afternoon at a private pond a bit South of this spot, supposedly stocked with largemouth bass and it was even greener than this. It was like 30 kids and 4 adults fishing in the middle of Summer and not one of us managed to get a single bite. Fortunately, the rest of the week was spent literally on the Chesapeake bay, or a brackish river just off of it, and fishing and crabbing was massively more successful there.

You should definitely get an awning for your hummers roof rack it helps give a nice shade when it’s really hot, whenever I go to the beach in my patrol Ute I always through the poles and hang out under the awning, it saves a lot of skin from burning

I know of a lake near me that is top water fishing heaven in the summer. Cannot be accessed via boat or car unless you have a badass truck such as yours. It is in Southern Jersey near the place you first took your Humvee off-roading when you got it.
