Proper fishing. Great video. Been a Grayling angler for 50 years.

thanks ever so for that! I've only just got back into fishing the Ribble, 15 years ago the grayling were seldom caught below Ribchester, now they're right through to the tide! almost as good as the Yorkshire rivers !🤣

Nicely done mate, very informative, engaging and it took me back to winter trotting on the Wharfe, so thank you for that 👍

I know what you mean! Other way round for me, I should be chasing barbel and preds but have to admit I love watching a float sailing down the river!! Lots in the ribble now, in noughties you wouldn't find em below Ribchester, now I'd bet they're on the tideway!👍👍

@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 I have a theory that more have moved down since the weir was removed as it was rare to catch any below the weir and this season I already know of a handful right down to the tidal.

excellent video, youtube lacks decent tutorials on individual species but this one ticks all the boxes, the lady of the stream indeed 👍👍

Great video Dave! Nice pace, easy to follow and some lovely fish along the way. What more do you want!? 😀

Cheers fella! A pleasure to make! The fly fishing version was problematic to say the least, the usual optimum period last autumn gave me flood on flood for weeks. Hopefully next year!! 😊

Love fishing for Grayling, only started around 10 years ago after catching a big grayling while Salmon fishing on the River Tees, really struggled the first year, then all of a sudden it all became very easy.
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 Жыл бұрын
Certainly easy with bait, not quite so with fly, that's next autumn/winters project! Cheers 👍

@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 With a nymph can be easy in the warmer months, dry fly can be frustrating, grayling seem to really lock on to whatever they are taking, while find trout will take something that roughly resembles a fly.

35 plus years ago this was the first fish i caught. in the Calder i think...... i lived in clitheroe at the time ...then i never caught another fish for 30 years...now i am 48 and have am back fishing .. this time in the Dorset sea.. however i am now smashing the sea bass,bream,plaice and like...id love to come back to clitheroe and join the dots and catch another grayling.....it tasted great in the day by the way...

I fish the Calder too, yet to explore the full potential, just a few trips over the summer so far Some nice grayling in the frome in Dorset but the sea fishing costs a lot less and is more exciting than the Lancashire coast! Tight lines and thanks for the comment 👍

Cracking Video Mate ,Have you ever fished the Ribble at Ribchester for Grayling ?
@soultrader57fishingandmusi252 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Yes, just a field or two upstream of Ribchester back in the noughties. I think grayling are spread well through the ribble now, any suitable glides probably hold a shoal or 2.👍👍

A truly gorgeous species, and great sport!

Thanks for the comment, it is indeed a captivating creature ! Although it's sad in a way to see march come around, at least there's trout to look forward to!

Great video,, ive struggled on the ribble for them bar the Warrington anglers stretch were me my dad have had up to 10 fish around the 2lb mark in a session,, always the same area and same fish ,, are they sedentary as I have caught the same fish a few years on in the same swim
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, thanks for commenting, as you say they tend to favour certain places, lots of river doesn't hold them. They may drop down a run into deeper water in cold winter weather, but often not very far. 10 fish to 2lb is great sport! I fish mostly on pretty inexpensive club water further downstream, but I'm still learning! tight lines! 👍
@stephenhollinrake916 Жыл бұрын
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 , it was a while ago , me n my dad have joined the stretch I think your in ! , alot of expensive fishing on the ribble,, the wood cutters was a super stretch for barbel n chub I never fished it for the grayling but it looks perfect,, the day tickets are ridiculous tho.

Very informative video. Is that an old Young's Rapidex? If so, prob still as good as day it was first sold. Btw, I've read that latest scientific thinking puts grayling in a family of its own, due to different spawning behaviour.

Thanks very kindly sir! No, its a Mordex (Sheffield firm) of uncertain age, not too well ATM, you may have noticed I had to spin it with my thumb, tried oiling etc. May be the head of a screw needs filing down or something similar chafing slightly. Paid £15 for it at a used tackle fair. May get a new one and retire it to a display shelf!! 👍
