I love those Arrow dodgers about all I use most of the time, that Orange crush and plain gold are killers. great video, first time I seen pro look out of his element while in a boat.

HAHAHA. For sure. Kokanee fishing and me are not on the same page. But I love learning new things.

For me, Anderson Ranch Reservoir "back in the day" was about 1980. The kokanee were about 11 inches. One weekend my dad and I took home our possession limit of 100 fish. Old school lake trolls (Doc Shelton, Cowbells) with a plain worm on #6 baitholder, maybe with a wedding ring and worm.

Time and hard work bud. Just remember guiding is about serving your customers.

I’m sure that’s not exactly the answer you were looking for. In short, research becoming a “Master Guide” in your chosen state(s). My advice would be to hire a guide in your area and enjoy the trip, but pay attention to what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. Bring a list of questions. Approach it like a career day. Usually you’ll have to apprentice a guide for several years. Take the tests, get the insurance and medical training and pay the fee’s (all of that varies by state). Work VERY hard and learn EVERYTHING you possibly can about your chosen quarry and your clients needs. Be a great customer service specialist and a descent fisherman/hunter and you’ll do well. It’s a good career that can be lucrative if you put in the time.

I'm new to your videos and I'm loving it! I've been fly fishing mountain lakes in NE Washington my whole life and just got a good boat to learn how to Kokanee fish. How fast are you trolling? Thanks again 😷
@SVaya2018
@SVaya2018 4 жыл бұрын
Adam Collison not sure how fast they were trolling but usual speed for me is 1.2-1.5 mph. Just need to be careful because around 1.6 or so the Dodgers will spin instead of dodging back and forth. I always check the action of my dodger and bait before I put it out!! Good luck and have fun!!!

Great advise from Daniel. Speed is the first adjustment I make with not getting bit. Play with it a little and you will find work works best for you.

At 19:56 it's not a "blood line". It's a kidney. Just to be precise.

I have always used ford fenders and did well with snubber in the leader of the wedding rings. I see a lot of videos if people using dodgers setup without snubbers. Are snubbers really necessary and if so when are they.
@VIPOutdoors1
@VIPOutdoors1 3 жыл бұрын
I think the snubbers are a substitute for the "perfect" Koke rod. Their mouths are very soft and hooks can easily rip out. The snubber helps absorb some of the shock when they thrash. I have personally found that a good koke rod and mono line do just fine.

I love the thump of the good old Ford fender, the problem is the drag they have on retrieve, it allows the fish to pass your gear and you know, roll of the hook. Your hooks are more important than a snubber. I think split shot /drop shot hooks work best for Kokanee. All your factory kokanee lures come pre rigged with octopus style hooks that are not the best for Kokanee. One more tip if you can place a small barrel swivel on the lead hook from the leader, with the use of a split ring,, it allows the fish to roll, and roll without twisting of the hook, the hook will just spin with them, Best of luck, keep em turning.

What rig would you use fishing from the shore off a steep drop off on a point?

Not sure. What I am sure of, is that is the way I alway think. The only way to really know is by trying it. Let us know. Thank you.

Jigging, anything from small tube style crappie jigs, and small spoons, 1/8 oz and1/4 oz kastmasters, super-dupers, also like the 1/2 oz lazer minnows are a good start. Good luck.

A dipsy diver or a drop weight and a good line counter level wind reel. But always watch Craigslist for down riggers.

Holds up great. I freeze it "whole fish" not guts or head. Or if I fillet I pack the meat to meat and have the skin to the bag.
