How to catch mew in Pokémon Yellow

The thing I tried to figure out my whole childhood was this easy! I did it on the save of the Pokemon yellow I got for Christmas so many years ago and now my pokédex is finally complete. Thanks!

Y'know this can be done really early on. Get to Cerulan, make sure you have a Butterfree. On the path to the Rock Tunnel, you find a TM for Teleport, teach that to your Butterfree. Then go to the area where the guy gives you the Charmander, and then approach the trainer in the grass. Then you do the Teleporting trick, then fight the Youngster with Slopoke as normal, but simply walk away, back to the PokeCentre, and the Menu should pop up followed by the Mew encounted.

It does work! I used a lvl 25 Ghastly to fight it and caught it with a Pokéball. Use "Confuse Ray" a lot- it doesn't hurt it, and the bonus of using Ghastly is that Mew's "Pound" won't affect you any. :)

I am 18 now. I think I was about 6 when i got it as a hand-me-down from my brother. One of the happiest moments of my life. I recently heard about how the batteries in the games are dying, so I went to check on my game. To my relief it still worked. Went back more recently, turned it on, all save data erased. One of the saddest moments of my life.

I remember I got Pokemon Yellow for Christmas one year and not only that, but my mom won a contest so that the mew got uploaded. So when I booted up the game, I had a lvl 3 Pikachu and a lvl ` Mew. I couldn't believe my eyes. Good times. :)

Oh the pleasure is all mine, the moments I've spent with my Pokemon, I could cry while I sail through the memories I have with them, Pokemon MADE my childhood, I remember the day, the time, the room where I first grasped my first Pokemon Blue Cartridge. This does 100% work if you follow the instructions and video correctly. I've just caught Mew now, I never got Mew when I was a kid, as forums and video walkthroughs like this didn't really exist online back then, so I didn't have a clue where or how to catch him and when I did finally find him I had already wasted my masterball. My inner child is happy now I caught that bastard Mew that eluded me all those years ago! 9-10 year old me would be proud!

I'm 19 and I started with Gold and Crystal and then moved to Ruby then got a used Yellow and stopped playing for a few years, never played Diamond/Pearl but I have White atm, man does this bring back my childhood

After getting bored of Poke White, I went to play Yellow all over again. I skip the Junior and rushed to get HM Fly. Later, I did all the steps. After I flew from the guy, I noticed the start menu won't show up anymore (until after I battled the kid), but w/e I went back to talk to the junior. Fly away and got Mew. I was so suprised it worked. I talked to my Pikachu and he gave me a thumbs up. Woot.

dude guys, this works, ive done it loads of times, and its the best thing ever. if i remember right, gamefaqs has an entire faq devoted to this glitch, and depending on the trainer you actually fight, you can get most any pokemon at level 7 out of this glitch, including mewtwo and things like that

Are the levels of the team, members of the team, leveling up of 'Chu, and A pressing in Lavendar Town significant? Or is it just the glitch with the trainer and flying off immediately followed by the trainer defeat above Nugget Bridge, and return to Lavendar all that are necessary?

The glitch works perfectly and didn't ruin my Yellow cartridge in anyway. By the way, that Mew has POTENTIAL. Although it's only level 7, you'll notice it's stats are VERY high for only a level 7 pokemon. It's been a while since I played so I can't remember the exact figures, maybe 20?

You can do the following: 1. Start off as in the video (the trainer can be any trainer as long as it can see you from the edge of the screene), and like in the video; Fly/Teleport/Etc. away from it just before it challenges you. 2. Beat any trainer, but make sure you stand at least 2 tiles away when it challenges you. 3. Go to Ditto's Cave and save.

You get Bulbasaur and Charmander in Cerulean City infact you can get both before you even fight the 2nd gym leader. He already has Fly which you don't get till about halfway thru the game so he isn't early in the game.

apparently u can do the mew glitch for the pokemon trainer in the cerulean gym..the one thts in the water and swims towards u...but first u have to get ur start button not working by doing a teleporting or flying when going into another trainers vision from off the screen..i found a few tht works but as long as u do tht it will work...

You have to press Start right when you walk down. You may need a few tries. The Trainer then appears at the bottom of the screen with your startmenu opened. Then choose fly and fly away.

All this can be done in Cerulean City... just get an Abra right outside Vermilion City, fight the trainer on the grassy patch to the left right after the Nugget Bridge pause right before you battle teleport to Cerulean City using Abra, fight the guy with the slowpoke, teleport back to Cerulean City than go accross the Nugget Bridge and you will encounter Mew. No need to fly to Lavender Town or anywhere else...

It's due to the special stat of the slowpoke owned by the kid that determines the pokemon encounter. You could use this trick to get any pokemon if you fought a pokemon of the correct special prior to going west of vermillion.

this only worksif you've never battled the trainer with the slowpoke. i've seen other videos of people approaching other trainers only to teleport/fly to a pokemon center but they all involve fighting the same trainer with a slowpoke. im assuming that it doesn't matter what town you go to after fighting him but as you leave the town and make the transition to the nearest route your menu will pop up,just dismiss it with "B" and the battle with Mew begins instantly...

You get charmander in ceruleon after beating those 5 trainers on nugget bridge, go up and left and talk to the dude there. you get bulbasaur in the same city after beating the gym, go to one of the houses to the left of the gym (dont remember which and talk to a girl there) you get squirtle by talking to the police woman in vermilion ( i think.) after beating the electric type gym with LT. Surge.

Nores: I suggest to save before step 1. The pokemon appearing in step 6 is choosen by the ditto's (last pokemon fought's) Special level. If it is 21, then you get Mew. Sadly, it might take everything from some minutes to a coupple of hours to find a Ditto with special level 21.

Of course, you have to escape after he saw you and to fight against the trainer with the flegmon from the field at the wall. Only then a mew will show up.

ok so i did this for a straight hour and it doesn't work. If i accidentally go into wild battle before i re-enter the area, it becomes a random pokemon. If i just re-enter the area, I enter the Matrix and it freezes. ...help?

I just tried it but when I walked in front of the trainer with the Slowpoke, the battle music came on but my character froze but the game wasn't (my Pikachu was moving around). I had all 6 Pokemon in my party; did that have anything to do with it?

This glitch can be done even if you have defeated all trainers and is not exclusive to Mew. You just have to go through the Elite 4 and a wild Pokemon battle with the correct Special stat value. You could basically get any Pokemon with this glitch.

It must be put into a handheld and run, if you don't run it for a very long time, the battery loses potential, thus, save data is erased

Maybe because he hasn't yet received one. I've captured Mew just after getting to Vermilion City using an Abra. You can get him early in the game and can catch him with a regular poke ball (though it takes a few, I made sure to have at least 25). But yeah using a Master Ball would be nice, too bad there's only 1 and I usually reserve that for Mewtwo since he's much more difficult.

I CAN'T DO THIS. i get to cerulean after that guy spots me and i fly. when i try to battle that guy in cerulean he doesn't want to. the exclamation point appears , he comes to me , but then he doesn't say anything . i can't move and the battle music keeps going on

@StardustXL you get given each of the starters from pokemon red/blue - Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle - at various points, by various people in pokemon yellow, all of which will evolve.
