If you dont have minnow traps you can use regular nets, its more difficult but put the bread near the entrance of the net so the fish are comfortable with the net and once they get super close to the bread or inside the net scoop it up by turning the net upwards so they cant swim out!

Nice video. This question is for anyone that reads this. As a novice angler can you use bread as minnow bate for both freshwater and saltwater minnows?
@laynepiatt4 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Wilson thank you! I couldn’t tell you anything about saltwater minnows, Ohio is quite far from the ocean lol
@jonathanwilson62884 жыл бұрын
Layne Piatt thank you. I’m here in Virginia and we are fortunate to have access to both. But I wasn’t sure if bread would work in saltwater or not. We usually use a piece of bacon and it works. I would much rather use bread if it would work. Well I guess I will try and see if it works.

we have glass minnows here but they are so tiny they would go through those traps holes.. at first i was thinking most the ones you caught also would just go through the holes in the trap.. but then ya boom.. you had a lot better ones.. though i think you just need a finer mesh trap. then you can get the little ones also.. you can just buy some material also soft type mesh and wrap your homemade one and make it more fine.. the little ones are nice though.. because you will catch more fish with them.. though the bigger ones will get you nicer fish for sure.. we also have shad here.. we can use both if you can dip net them only.. well maybe we can do a trap i need to look it up.. because i know if i could get some shad or minnows i might be able to catch some fish easier then just using fake plastics all the time. im in cali so they are strict here on laws.

Your homemade trap has a rather large gauge mesh so obviously caught the bigger ones and you placed it in the right place ...on the bottom whereas you placed the commercial one in the wrong place on that ledge too high in the water.
