Good job on the videos. A friend of mine chums his traps up with cat food. He punches a few holes in those little potted meat sized cans. Seems to work okay but Ive seen more minnows in your traps then ours! Everything eats bread. LOL
@michaelharr76085 жыл бұрын
One thing me and the ol man found out, we use to use bread/buns, but after there are a few minnows in there they bump the bread and it washes out, so we tried using left over pizza crust, attracts them great, and the best part that we found is it hangs together and doesn't wash out, if you would like to try it. We normally set 4-6 traps, leave them for an hour or so, and average catch is 8-10 dozen.
@georgepretnick44605 жыл бұрын
Great video. I have some suggestions. Try saving left over live and dead bait. I salt and air dry minnows and crayfish,. I put them in a sandwich size zip lock and throw them in the freezer. The salt pulls all the moisture out of the bait. To use, I put a "carrier' like bread, crackers, or dog food. Mix it all up including the salt. That salt is highly scented. Try it and let us know.

Me and the old man have been trapping minnows ever since I was a kid. First thing I can tell you is the silver traps will catch more then those black ones. Second thing I can tell you if you zip tie one end of the minnow hole off so there is only one entrance it WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR CATCH RATE! just helps not ad many getting out. Third thing I can tell you. If you feel like those black traps have to big of holes..zip tie a funnel of what size of minnows u want to catch. Your welcome folks 😀
@GarzaMaterials Жыл бұрын
@101scottyman Does it also work for crawfish?
@daveg21996 ай бұрын
Thanks for your experienced input. If I close off one end which end is facing upstream? Open or closed end? Probably closed end upstream because they naturally face upstream therefore they will swim up and in the downstream facing hole?

How about trying to paint your traps? I've heard that the black causes the fish to assume the figure in the water is a predator. When I was a kid I had a galvanized trap that caught so many minnows. I've had a black trap for a decade and I've caught very few minnows. I'm wondering if painting would actually work.
@FishHawk6 жыл бұрын
Possibly! These minnow traps are wire with a rubber coating on the wire. I'm not sure paint would stick to it very well.

Hey, either you or another u-tuber I've watched did a vid comparing the Black type of trap you are using, to the standard sq. mesh galvanized trap... and the result was hands down the old school galvi. trap landed 4X or more minnows. Performed his tests in 3 different streams... to get good results. Also, compare the bread you normally use to stale unsliced Italian bread... it was a secret weapon of bait stores back in the day.... it stays together way longer so, minnows keep entering trap to get a wet crumb or 2.
