In this video, I take my two sons, James and Jenson to our local tench pond to try out Jenson's new whip. I take you through the very basic setup for how to catch tench with a whip, including how to attach a rig and select bait suitable for beginners that also catch lots of fish.
I've been using fjuka bait for around a year now. It's a kind of soft, shapeable pellet that has fish attractants built in. It's pretty tough too and can be hooked straight onto a hook with little chance of it coming off.
We had most success in this session moulding red fjuka into maggot shapes and side hooking them.
For the rig a simple 0.5g float was used with a bulk and 2 droppers (5x No. 8s and 2x No. 10s)
Tench fishing is great for getting the kids into fishing as the tench fight really hard for their size and it's really exciting as the fish roar off when hooked.
We used a Sensas Classic Telewhip and I elasticated the top section with Drennan 4-6 aqua bungee elastic with a dacron connector. For instructions how to do this yourself, see the following video:
