A few things to note. One, I do believe the Golden Hook only affects the Leedsichthys, at least in terms of rain only fish. The wiki could be wrong about that, but that's what it currently says. Two, buy a well! If you see rain somewhere, but don't know where the closest water to it is, or want to stay as close to shop as possible, you can plop down that prop and use it to fish. The well has working water! (The toilet always works for this purpose.) Three, Statistically speaking, most of the rain you'll see will be freshwater. Don't avoid ocean storms, though! The rain only fish can be caught in any water, as rain is the only requirement for them to be caught. And finally, don't get discouraged if the rain stops suddenly. That usually means the cloud moved a bit. Look up and see if you can find another spot to fish! If you no longer hear the rain falling, but still have the darkened sky effect and pouring rain on your screen, the cloud is shrinking, and about to despawn. Sometimes you can fit one more catch in, but it's rare.
