Made me wish I was surf fishing on a Florida beach! That pompano may have been grazing on sand fleas...all those other fish, the whiting and croakers, will munch sand fleas too. Thanks for sharing--you're living the dream!

Dude, surf fishing the beaches of Florida is one of the best experiences a person can have, besides the mangrove fishing, but surf is just a little more relaxing. Thanks for sharing, it helps that fishing itch! I'm looking forward to finally moving out to FL in the next month or two from landlocked AZ and can't wait! Tight lines brotha!!!

I really need to surf fish other places! These whiting look verrry similar to California Corbina, which are super fun catching on light or ultralight line here in the SoCal surf. I wonder if the same/similar tactic could work on the beaches out your way: size 4-6 mosquito hooks, sand fleas (aka sand crabs out here), 18-24" leader of 4# flouro and a 1/4-1/2oz bullet or egg sinker/bead/swivel above that. They usually will slide up the beach when the sand crabs are shallow in the sand, waiting for the shore break to dislodge an easy meal then feed on them and swim back out into the trough to wait for the next wave to push them back up, so if you pitch your bait into the zone where the wash is (even though it may seem counterintuitive) oftentimes you'll induce a strike. What I like about fishing this way is that it's super lightweight, mobile and forces you to look for different areas where there's structure - plus, it's always good for me get some exercise in and walk the beach. It's a lot of fun fishing for them and a lot of guys end up sight fishing them too. I'm guessing the whiting out there have the same/similar feeding habits?

Hey Jeremy. It sounds like they might be the same fish.

I used to surf fish for blues with a gator spinner w a treble hook /leader back when i was a kid 11-14 yrs old and never really knew how dangerous wading way out there could be while doing this .I caught a lot of blues /amberjack some pompano's and one time a bonita tuna .But do recall seeing sharks chasing schools of fish in the waves as the sun hit them right ,also a turtle popped his head up about a foot or two away from where i was chest deep casting my lure beyond the obvious run of blues . I'd imagine people take more precautions now ? This was back in 77-78 and a lot of things were going on unchecked i guess ?

About 10 years ago when I'd make my yearly Florida trips to visit an old friend, we'd fish nonstop and would always be wading out into chest deep water. So it still takes place. But after a few years we realized (in the areas we were fishing anyway) it was actually more productive to hit the first few troughs which we could normally cast to from thigh/waist deep water.

I'm certainly not going to subscribe to your channel ... or even watch it again. If you're not going to keep a fish, is it gonna kill you to walk your dainty little tootsies a few feet into the water to release the fish beyond the wave backwash ... instead of just throwing them down on the practically dry sand to get beat up by the next incoming wave!! And no, I'm not some vegetarian nutcase, I'm an avid saltwater and freshwater fisherman who believes that if you're not going to keep what you catch, at least release it humanely so it has the best chance to survive.
