I'm glad you liked it! I'm hoping it will help new comers into the hobby for years to come, I've seen a lot of people have trouble with re-locating, now if someone asks the question on your group you can just share the video, it gets a bit boring trying to explain over and over as you would know 🙂

All native fish no matter where you live is worth keeping and studying. What may be brown and boring to you is exciting to see for someone else. 35 years ago Australian Native fish were impossible to find in an aquarium shop. So much so I had a small shop and was considered the largest supplier of native fish in the country for a while. Also as a wholesaler I rarely had other shops buy natives except for Saratoga.

We thought it was our responsibility as long time fish people to put out some real useful information on this subject, we see so many people catching fish and loosing them, it gets kind of upsetting after awhile, and it's not the peoples fault, just lack of knowledge and no real information out there, Thank you for your kind words.

Hi Leo and Jason my husband and I are moving down to South Australia he kept rainbows for many years. the ones he has now he wants to take in the car. He was thinking of using a Esky with battery powered pump. on your video you had a styrofoam with a plastic heavy duty plastic bag which one would be better and safer for the fish the On the trip will be about 3-4 days will the Esky keep the water temperature stable over night he was thinking about bringing it into hotel or place that he is staying at sitting a heater in water...from Steve
@australianbiotopes4563
@australianbiotopes4563 Жыл бұрын
I actually use 20lt buckets with lids, I put a small hole in the centre of the lid and use a battery pump, I put the bucket into a styrofoam box and pack it in with towels, this will keep the bucket stable and just incase there is any water gets out, I fill the bucket to about 3/4 so it stops to much splashing around, if you have it in the car it can be climate controlled pretty much, you could take a spare heater with you for the stops at night if your in hotel rooms if your worried about the cold, it depends on the rainbows you have, one of the main things is not to feed them a few days before so they perg them selves of any waste so the water doesn't fowl up, in the warmer months I do the same thing but wet the towels to keep them cooler, I've even used ice wrapped in paper before as well, I was going to go into this further in future videos as well, I hope this helps, you can also use home brew style drums if you have anything like it, don't forget to add a little salt as Leo said and stress coat, it does help a lot.

An esky with aeration would be fine. Just ensure it's full enough to prevent excessive sloshing

Useful advices for the Australian nature though wild fish acclimation is far more complicated process. Moving wild fish from pH 4 to pH 7.5 is a torture and crime
@australianbiotopes4563
@australianbiotopes4563 Жыл бұрын
These fish we are talking about do it from season to season, most Australian fish are used to large water changes and the majority are pretty tough, we aren't talking about fish that live in the same water generation after generation, people once thought this about Discus until they were bred extensively in Asia, this is why in the most part I don't bother putting PH. for Australian fish most can acclimate pretty quickly and a water way can go from being soft to hard depending on rainfall and season, some can even tolerate some salt or brackish water from tidal changes or wet and dry seasons.

@australianbiotopes4563
@australianbiotopes4563 11 ай бұрын
I don't my self, I quarantine fish when I first get them and treat them but other then that if I move them I generally use salt in a bucket incase there is any damage, and keep clean aquariums, I've never seemed to have to many problems.

@australianbiotopes4563
@australianbiotopes4563 Жыл бұрын
The small amount of salt doesn't bother the fish, it is actually good for them, it can even be added to your aquarium, even in the wild there is small amounts of salt even in freshwater.
