Every time i see this vehicle i cringe. I did a coating on a night hawk addition. All the chrome was basically blacked out. My masking tape peeled half off the coating on the trim. It’s basically no better than a peel coat. I almost fainted lol. Do not put tape on one of you get one. Lesson learned. Great video.

Definitely a very good guide for amateurs to follow, especially with the ceramic coating recommendation Chelsea. The grey metallic colour was 100% enhanced 👏👏. I'm fairly certain my previous employers Armstrong World Industries ( in the UK here in North east england) had their main manufacturing plant in Lancaster, Pensylvania, in the USA. A very good 14 years with Armstrongs from 1984 to 1998. Happy times. Sadly I believe Armstrong in name are no more, but some of their trade names live on?

I did our black Subaru 2022 in 8 hours, the reason why it took so long was I never did one before, first, the step of hand spraying the stuff that remove's the iron filings was a waste of money, there were none to began with, The clay bar worked in some spots, but can scratch the paint.. I tried to remove some scratches with 2 types of polish, but it created ghosting, so I had to apply car wax over and over to remove the ghosting. I still was hesitant to to ]totally buff out the scratches. To see if Nano ceramic coating really did polish the finish, I taped off half the hood and after I removed it and I could see that the coating did darken and slightly shine the paint. All in all, I was working with black paint, the toughest to work with, also I don't have all the professional tools, like pressure washers and tons of different types of polish, in reality to buff out scratches you have to get the clearcoat more thin and down to where the scratch is. Do you really want to make your paint more thin, its going to scratch anyway? I paid $99.00 for the ceramic coating, they only provide 2 microfiber towels, and 2 pairs of gloves, even if you allow it to dry with the rainbow haze, there is still a lot of product that comes off on the towel. for 99 bucks they could have been less cheap and provided 2 additional towels. I think for 5 years of protection its to good to be true, but we should see.

You can do three cars a day. People obsessed with the pre application steps. 9\10 time it's not needed. It's the curing process that is the most important of all. And the follow up care from the customer to allow the coating to its thing over the life of the coating

Chelsea I feel like you and I have a similar mentality when it comes to maintaining adhd. Strict deadlines are my go to for controlling my focus. I am so much better under pressure like that. The paint on my stinger seems very hard as well. Bought it 1 year used and I could not get any work done with an orange LC pad and TW one and done compound. I had to step up to microfiber to get any results.

First clean with a apc or acid based wheel cleaner to deep clean using a soft detail brush. Then if you don’t want to debadge you can try to use a microfiber and polish by hand in all the tight spaces and then remove residue. They tear up pads so polishing by hand is the best bet if you don’t debadge be then reattach the emblems

I have a new Telluride coming in a few weeks. I'm new at this but have been practicing paint correction on my old jeep. My plan is to one step using optimum hyper with a lake country orange pad. Would there be any advantage like more pop or gloss if I did a two step with a white hdo after the orange. Maybe Griot finishing cream instead of the OHP. I don't mind spending the time. TIA

Great video! 4 hours is impressive to do all that. How do you like the coating prep auto wash? I have read mixed reviews on it. Have you experienced it actually has power to cleanse any existing waxes or sealants? Thanks Chelsea

It may not remove 100% if it’s fresh, but most vehicles that I prep for coatings have some weakened protection on it and I can tell that it is all but gone by the time I use this soap. But if it’s fresh wax I will notice it’s greatly weakened , but not 100% gone

Can you explain why you use McKees Graphene Coating vs McKees 2.0? Is it because it is price prohibitive, harder to work with, or something else. Car looks great by the way!
@attention2detailswchelsea
@attention2detailswchelsea Жыл бұрын
Personally, price is an issue but I’ve been very satisfied with the original graphene coating and I’ve done testing on that and was very impressed and have seen more real world results with that product versus the 2.0. Plus most of my customers are only keeping their vehicles 2 to 3 years so the extra money that I’m spending to apply the 2.0 I don’t think it’s going to change the results for the vehicles that I see. Does that make sense?

I did a machine polish + ceramic coating on my car about 3 months ago but the coating didn't properly cure at that time before it got rained on (within 24 hours). Now when i did a chemical decon last weekend the car has no ceramic coating on it. Looks like the coating didn't cure properly because the panels flooded very easily. Should I do another polish and ceramic coating and this time ensure it cures properly within the 24 hour period (not getting rained on)? I'm unsure if i should. This last wash has put me off car care. I feel i messed up the first ceramic coating and now I don't know if I should even attempt doing it again for fear of messing it up a 2nd time even though I've learned that curing the coating is extremeley important and the first day or two is crucial.

I don't think 3/4 hour coating jobs are a good idea or something to shoot for. Why? Proper decon and wash takes roughly an hour with drying time. Panel prepping the whole car can take 30 minutes PLUS a 20 minute off-gas. That's almost an hour. Polishing a whole car with enhancement is roughly 1-2 hours. That's already 3-4 hours without applying coating. Coating application varies but it can take 1-2 hours alone with proper lighting. 2 minute to apply to a panel or panels. average 5 minute flash time, then another 5 minutes to remove with 3 towel method and check for any smearing or high spots. You are looking at anywhere from 10-15 minutes per 2 panels. With most cars needing 5 sections that's another hour. I see so many detailers boasting that they coat cars in 3 or 4 hours that it's crazy. Doing it faster means more money and a shorter day, but you might be cutting out critical steps in a process and causing pre-mature coating failures.

If it’s a new car 4 hrs is very reasonable. Typical used cars it’s closer to 6-7 hrs sometimes more if more polishing is required. But it can be done and it doesn’t mean corners were cut. I just got really lucky with this one having great paint
