Slew, you’ll probably never see this comment but I just want to thank you for bringing back my motivation and love for art again. At the start of this year I was very sick and couldn’t pick up a pencil or brush and am slowly coming back to what I love and your videos truly are motivating and uplifting. Thank you 🙏🏻

Yeah, sometimes you need a kickstart to get you on track. For me it was a workshop about "painting like in medieval times" my wife enrolled me in my home town of Luebeck/Germany. My creative flow was in neutral mode for more than a year or two, more of a passive mode, like watching creative people on YT, adoring their art and feeling bad about my flaws. The active contact with other artists gave me the drive to try again. Among other things I started a sketchbook about the "Geschichtserlebnisraum Roter Hahn" (History experience area Red Rooster) in Luebeck-Kuecknitz, which made me ashamed for living in Luebeck for 19 years and not having been there before!

As an animator I remember doing this exercise with characters we had to develop needing to do hundreds and hundreds of drawings of the same character with very very slight differences between drawings. It's such a good skillset to have to be able to differentiate between poses.... and challenging. Great eye brother.

Heya SLEW! I think you did a very interesting challenge! I remember when I was working as a freelance artist in my 20’s and 30’s and I did whatever I needed to bring in the rent money, pay the bills! I shot photo’s drew portraits even painted pet portraits in watercolor mostly but in acrylics too! You are truly inspirational I understand your scattered approach and I commend your efforts! I hope you are able to refine your desires and medium choices. I recently started painting with soft pastels and I found that I had to start at the beginning! I have every confidence in you as an Artist and I am pulling for you and your success! Thank you for sharing this very fine challenge and well done sir!

Wow these are amazing! An hour!? I think self-portraits are harder to draw than others - at least for me. Thank you for sharing! I've been doing daily drawings for a bit to help my technical skills. I have a question - what is that blending spoon you use to blend? I use blending sticks.

Nice work! I think I enjoyed the expression in the second days drawing most of all. I'm glad you were able to get it down to an hour. Do you think if you would have done it for 2 hours the drawings would have been overkill or do you think you would have gotten them richer in detail? Just curious. Congrats on the new merch. Loved the music in this video as well. Thank you for sharing your pearls of wisdom as well as entertaining me for the evening. Blessings.

Slew, the 2nd and fourth portraits are the most successful to me with the fifth not being that bad and neither were the last two. Definitely see more of a newer style developing with the pan pastel tool especially in the nose area the way you are rendering. Something I noticed and believed you touched on was that it was more challenging to do these portraits in different angles and poses but I find them to be ACTUALLY EASIER as one has more information to pull from and far more interesting angles and perspectives that lend themselves to that fact, respectfully.

Is the accuracy of likeness because you have practiced so much? I'm happy my portraits look like people but not sure you would recognize them from my drawings. I find that the smudging/shading feels very sculptural and quickly adds to the overall picture. Just picked up some willow charcoal myself. Any tips? Thanks!

I created a card game like pokemon/magic the gathering and if you would do the art we can work something out. I'm not rich, it's the first card game I ever made but one day hope it turns into a successful business. I'm just looking for someone to work with that has your talent.
