Thanks for taking the time to make this comprehensive video. I have changed brake pads on various cars before, but it was nice to have this guide to show me the specifics for my Soul. I must say that I am impressed with the design of the brakes on the Soul. They are far easier to service than the brakes of other cars I have owned in the past. It's never a particularly difficult job, but on the Soul, it is particularly easy because all the clips etc remain in place.

Excellent tutorial, like others stated great mention of torque values for the bolts! List of parts used would be great.

Thanks. I usually just use the old brake pads to lay across the piston and push it back with a C clamp. To each his own. Just a fun fact, the rotary heat up, so if you leave grease on them, besides them being less effective you risk them catching on fire.

Does Kia state the 2 phillip head screws need to go back? Because those aren't needed to be put back on typically.

Take a screw driver and place it in between the pad and the front part if the caliper through the front side and pull towards you. That will push the piston back in and will allow the caliper to come.off without banging it.

No problem with this the guy explains very well but Many people top up their brake fluid and if you push the piston back the fluid will quite probably overflow so the suggestion that the other guy makes about cracking open the bleed nipple when pushing the caliper piston back is a real good idea as the other alternative if the fluid level is high is trying to take some out not simple as you dont want to contaminate it an any way.

Use the old brake pad and place it on the piston and c clap it back. No worries of unevenness thanks to the old brake pad.

I've learned to pinch off the brake hose and open the bleeder valve when compressing the piston. I will start using lock tite on the caliper bracket bolts.
@fupabox
@fupabox 4 жыл бұрын
The reason I would never pinch off a brake hose is that some are lined in flexible steel. Pinching can wreck the braided line and not allow the fluid to go backwards since there isn't enough pressure in that direction , This can cause locked up or dragging brakes , I had an old 740 with this issue that took ages to figure out . when you pushed the pedal there was plenty of force to push the piston out ..but when you released the pedal the pinched internal hose wouldn't let the fluid move back and allow the pads to retract . sorry long winded explanation.

@@fupabox wasn't aware of internally braided hoses. I'll look it up. Most stainless is external. What do you do to keep sediment out of the master cylinder?

@@mikeg6633 Very good question. I just spent some time looking as well and it seems that for years I have been overly cautious from the one bad experience . The Volvo Turbo I had the brake line issue with was heavily modified and it is likely it had rubber coated stainless lines that the clamping had damaged internally . I wrongly assumed that many other brake lines were also rubber wrapped stainless . Stainless usually have a teflon plastic internal pipe that is possibly where my deformation came from as well , since it could have been crushed by my clamping . That being said I was just assuming after that fiasco that many rubber lines were also internally stiffened . Looks like the one bite in my ass years ago made me a bit too gun shy . Thanks for that info . I never would have bothered looking . much appreciated

You should be using caliper grease not anti sease
@fupabox
@fupabox 3 жыл бұрын
When I was first taught (40 years ago by a dealership mechanic) we always used anti seize on slider pins. Not sure if the formulation is changed , but I'm noticing it dries out much more quickly than it used to . Have lately been switching to synthetic brake lube .

Hopefully your brake kit fits . Possibly the 2011 and 2014 had different calipers and rotors but if the spindles are the same the kit should bolt on . Cant find any info on the spindles

If the caliper pins were stuck then you should have replaced the boots, they are allowing water in and it WILL happen again....

so when you spun the rotor at the end I heard some grinding noise. Isn't is suppose to spin someone freely with no "touching" sounds?
@fupabox
@fupabox 6 жыл бұрын
It's just the sound of the new pads touching the rotor, they aren't pushed back firmly into the caliper until you press on the brake pedal.. the pads are also a tiny bit rough when first installed.. within the first few hundred meters driving that will be gone

C-camp inside the bore. Epic fail. Use an old brake pad and put the c-clamp on the pad and the outside of the caliper and then push the piston in. And doing it this way you were putting pressure on the outside walls of the piston and not in the center which is the most fragile part of the Piston if you use a c clamp in the in the video is shown you could stand a chance to poke a hole in the center of the piston ruining the caliper
