How to Change a Dirt Bike Tire! | Dennis Kirk Tech Tip

If you ride dirt bikes, one of the fastest wearing parts of your motorcycle is the rear tire. With help from our friend Jay Clark of Dunlop Tire, we will show you how to change your tire in only a few simple steps. While it may seem like a daunting task, removing the old tires and installing a new one is simple as long as you have the right tools and technique. Dennis Kirk can help with the tools, and this video will help with the technique!

Jay you are the person who taught me how to change a tire properly and easily years ago I appreciate you and your videos. Def make sure the tire is off the bead and I use the yamalube tire paste as I only change about a dozen tires a year and it works for me, one of the things I do is I do not go light with the tire paste ( spray ) I put a lot on and it also help with seating the bead when I inflate, I believe I have watched every single video you have made changing tire, thanks again.

Great job Jay. One tip for us amateurs, put 2-3 spoons to the left of the Bead Buddy so when you get close and things are getting tighter you don't have to put a spoon in, you just lift the 2-3 spoons easy peasy and it's on.

What tire changing stand do you use?

Here come the experts....like me. Is it better to have sprocket side down? I use a smidgen of dish soap. And talc, esp on the tube. I was hoping you show the Mostly Hands and muscles method.

No because every modern man has a fancy stand, tools, and an air compressor, right? How about a bucket and two spoons! All he did was scare the new kids away..

It is amazing how easy some of these guys make it look, and how freaking hard it actually is. I swear they are heating those tires in a pizza oven, or putting a 19 inch tire on an 18 inch rim, lol. My 10 inch spoons were worthless, I bought two 18 inchers, and it took all of my 175 pounds to lever the bead over the rim, like an hour to get that 8 year old Dunlop off. The tires are so darn stiff, to keep the opposite side in the drop center I put four 6-inch C-Clamps on the sidewalls of the tire. Getting ready to put the new one on, not looking forward to it.

My favorite way to change a tiire is to never use Dunlop’s. Michelin’s, IRCs, Pirelli’s, are way easier to change than those pesky Dunlop’s.
