That's like the first day of school: all class! :) The ZX-14R has a monster clutch assembly. Thankfully, it's hydraulically assisted, but it also means a different method is used to adjust it. I'm going to be upgrading the oil pump on my bike towards the end of the year and will have to pull the clutch apart to do it. I hope I can muster the patience you had to record the process and edit it into a cohesive video. :) One thing about the EBC plates is that they will resist heat fading & glazing much better than OEM.
@TheGorillaBiker

Haha yes we also use the term differently :P I would imagine it has to be huge to hold that beast :) That'd be really cool to see to be honest so I hope you manage to keep patience and record it :) Definitely! The stock plates weren't great at all tbh! Fairly worn when I took them out but they lasted well!!

dont mind doing bike clutches as the majority of them are so easy to do, cars on the other hand can be a pita, old landrovers are even worse 2 options, have a military version with bolt on cross member (i have this) or take out the interior.... other wise you cant get the gearbox and such moved to get the new plate in. think the easiest car was a vauxhall/opel from the 90s that had a drop in clutch like a cassette you just wacked in and out dont think they caught on either...... yes that was fun :P

greetings from croatia, maybe you can help me with advice on my yamaha phaser 600 2009 when changing gears, you hear too strong metal shocks and the engine jerks to put in the first one, tomorrow it will be a bit better and then bad again so I keep adjusting the cable when he’s in gear and can’t always stop him with a foot like you, can something be gained by changing just the springs
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 4 жыл бұрын
That's actually normal for first gear on the fazers it's a hefty clank into first. How old is your clutch pack? The springs actually keep the clutch engaged so it's possible yours are too strong! Could definitely change them out for OEM springs to see does it help.

Hmm yes that is strange, one thing I'd say to check is the position of the clutch release, when you're putting back on the clutch cover there is a dot that should line up on the clutch release I showed it in this, if it has been removed ever I'd try realign that as it sounds like you're just not releasing the clutch at all. It would also be worth inspecting the plates themselves too, they could be sticking

Hey bro hope you can help. I have a hyosung gt650r. It drags too much on traffic lights when the engine is hot. And won’t go to neutral and 1st three gears are very hard. When the engine is OFF the gears are very smooth.
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 3 жыл бұрын
Be impossible to tell really without seeing it. Check your cable is adjusted correctly when the engine is hot, and if you can check the conditions of your clutch plates, might just be time to change them. Also what can cause clutch drag is a worn clutch basket itself, so worth popping it open and checking everything really. No harm in dropping it to a mechanic to have a look if it's really bad.

If my metal plate (not the friction plate) was soaking in oil, do I need to wipe it off?
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 3 ай бұрын
@@ramia317 not at all! Everything in there will be covered in oil soon anyway. And don't worry too much about soaking as well, a clutch acts as a centrifuge so the oil is actually forced off the plates very quickly :) The excess anyway. Once they have a light covering for assembly it's all good!

Hey Man. I have had trouble with nothing EXCEPT putting the clutch cover back on. I made sure that the dots are lined up on the clutch pull arm and I made sure that the teeth on the spline in the middle of the pressure plate are facing the rear of the bike but once buttoning it back up the clutch cable has absolutely 0 tension or springiness to it (Im sure that its not the cable or adjustment). It feels as if the cable is not even there. I feel those teeth start to pull the cover but I am having no luck. I am able to push that clutch arm by hand (and I know that usually it is not supposed to be that light). Any ideas on what I am doing wrong when putting the cover on. Thanks in advance.
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 4 жыл бұрын
I would say you're the same as I was the first time I ever did a clutch, hopefully a small thing. Firstly make sure you check the dots are also aligned on the clutch basket. Assuming that's correct check the alignment on the clutch pull arm once the cover is in place and right, I'd be willing to bet they no longer are, if they're not that's you're issue. Same thing happened to me, all it is is the actuator is rolling on the teeth so you end hope at the incorrect home, all you need to do is start the alignments way off when it'd going on, more advanced like and it'll roll itself back out, it's a bit of a faff and trial and error but once the cover is seated and tight those dots should align between the cover and arm. If they're not you'll never get tension or spring into the cable. You should still be able to pull that arm by hand once it is seated correctly it should just have a bit of force to it! :) Hopefully that's all it is!
@tom24gr46
@tom24gr46 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheGorillaBiker Ill keep giving it a try. I had reached a point where the cover was on, the lever looked light it was in the right position, but the actual pressure plate is not being pulled atl all. I look through the oil fill whole and I see that rod moving but I don't see the pressure plate being pulled. Additionally the cable has absolutely 0 resistance. The cable is like being hooked up to thin air- and does not even spring back.
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 4 жыл бұрын
Ah ok also make sure the teeth on the little rod are mating to the actual lever itself. I don't think it fits in without them lined up. It honestly sounds exactly like when I had the arm in the wrong position. I wouldn't lose hope yet anyway!! So when you're putting on the cover just start with the arm pushed in even further than you think you need and it should help then :)
@tom24gr46
@tom24gr46 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheGorillaBiker Ill give is a try today, thanks for responding so quickly. One last question- are you supposed to be able to move the arm and separate the pressure plate with your hand (thumb) or is the final, correct result too hard and need the cable to pull it? I ask because there was a point when I got the cover to go on and the arm was rock solid. (which is how I remember it before doing this job) [I had tried to move the arm in the past with my hand but it was too stiff]. Unfortunately when I went to pull the clutch that time the end of the clutch cable snapped off haha.
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 4 жыл бұрын
No problem! You can move it by hand yes, or should be able to anyway but it is very stiff by hand in comparison to your lever. It definitely shouldn't be immovable anyway, that'd suggest something is stuck or incorrect, if there's any other way I can help let me know :)
