My current bike, and the VIAR have gear indicators. I find they distract me. I keep looking at them to confirm something I don't need to know . . . 😅 I have always ridden with the idea that I need to be in the right gear for the situation, changing to stay in the power band, or changing to avoid "lugging" the engine or over revving. Now it is almost like I have lost my faith 📿👼👿. Certainly a ridiculously easy install. A good video. Kudos on the accents. Thank you. 👍

I would say, by far, the biggest expense is injuring yourself in a crash, especially in the US where medical costs are privatized.
@TheGorillaBiker3 күн бұрын
We'd have to agree to disagree there, since I had no injuries converting the bike, I get you have a thing to push about injuries but this video isn't really the place for it is it?.
@langhamp89123 күн бұрын
@@TheGorillaBiker Crashing is part of racing, trackdays much less so but there's still the chance of it happening especially on a bike that has no ABS/TC. A big argument in favor of a more expensive motorcycle is avoiding highsides. For the injuries, are you using a quality leather suit with an electronic airbag? That right there cost nearly as much as your bike but they're incredibly effective in stopping injuries cold. I saw a lot of Bison leathers on my last trackday. And don't forget you're a bigger guy; bones and organs aren't any bigger between people but the energy they have to absorb is more in bigger people. Bigger people get injured on the track at way higher rates than smaller people. And finally, do you have medical insurance appropriate for this type of activity? I have ambulance rides, hospital days, short and long term disability, and an attorney on retainer via my job. Post-tax, all of this was less than 100 dollars per month. For not much money you can race better with the assurance that when bad things happen you'll at least be protected.
@TheGorillaBiker3 күн бұрын
So you're going to ignore the fact that this is a video about converting a bike and literally zero to do with personal responsibility or the wonderfulness of new bikes. I've made videos on bikes being dangerous, there is an inherent risk you have to be comfortable with, not sure why you preaching to me about this stuff knowing literally zero about me. You should go watch some track coaching stuff, making the assumption that you HAVE to crash some times is silly. I bought a cheap bike because I wanted to, I have ridden on track only without abs and TC in Ireland. I've done quite a few now and am happy with my ability to gauge the risk I take, and I have a budget that I'm comfortable with to work to. You literally have watched one video, and made massive assumptions about who and what I am. On the bigger people argument, you are so incredibly wrong about the bones, organs and energy dispersal that it's not even worth arguing. For background I'm an engineer that used to make replacement joints as a profession, I've ACTUALLY studied the stuff you're making wildly incorrect statements on. Please share data backing up the nonsense about injury rates, if you're talking about physical fitness you'd be correct, but I am actually in much better condition than I might look. And finally, none of your business. I didn't ask about what you do and don't have, as you are also and adult and I expect other adults can look after themselves just fine.
@langhamp89123 күн бұрын
@@TheGorillaBiker My apologies. I'm assuming that you're one of the many uninsured racers that I see with a "soon to be Fund-Me account". My source was a RoadRacing article about a clinical professional providing some insurance background on racers, and how he estimated about 90% of amateur road racers have nowhere near the insurance needed for a crash. If you were an engineer, then you know that engineers must design a worst case scenario. Also, you would know that, as an engineer, heavier loads require heavier beams. I'm curious as to if you're actually insured. It's ok not to be, as it is cheaper not to be and you don't have crashes requiring medical intervention. But I suspect (admitting I know nothing about you) that you aren't insured for this activity you're doing; if you were, you'd say, "ah, but I am insured!" instead of being hostile and defensive.
@TheGorillaBiker3 күн бұрын
@langhamp8912 hahaha that's a leap. I work for my money and always have thanks 😂 Yes I do plan for both, and also its why your statement about bones etc was insanely wrong. Nah see I deal with people who leave mad patronizing comments(like yours) on a daily basis so I don't feel the need to answer anyone's questions when it's not related to the video we're dealing with, like this case, cus it's weird how oddly passionate you've come in and assumed literally the worst about every facet of my life on bikes while knowing zero about me. Read through some comments on other videos, 99.9% of the time I'm not hostile at all, so maybe, MAYBE, you were the problem here :)

I agree with you about housing. People seem to buy up these cookie cutter houses as soon as they're built, so we may be the minority opinion. For some, any house will do because they don't want to rent. For many others these sorts of new sub-developments fit their lifestyle precisely. While I don't want to live out in the middle of nowhere, I would like a little space.

Welcome to the addiction :) Honestly no on this one, it's a pretty fast bike and you could get yourself in to trouble as a beginner. I don't recommend bikes to people without being there in person and knowing someone as everyone is different, but go sit on stuff like the VStrom 650, CBF 300L, any CB500 bike etc. Unfortunately everything in production will be too softly sprung for you so do keep that in mind, it'd be worth getting stuff sorted for your weight also going forward and it'll make everything feel better!

Is Toaster wanting a lower, lighter bike then the CB? I'd hate to see it go. I'm keeping mine probably till the end, just turned 60, YUCK! CB is really a UJM, does everything, just why I like it! Also love the sound when you get on it. Change fork oil to Maxima 15wt, add 1.25 in. spacers and raise the tubes in the trees to 1.5 in. and it handles like a sportbike instead of a cruiser. My season just ended here in PA, snowing as I type this.☹️ Next year. BTW idle speed is set to 1k fully warm.😉
@TheGorillaBiker5 күн бұрын
Yeah, lower not as much a big deal but when we did the blue ridge and she got tired she found the weight harder to manage, plus on a lot of the inclined parking places etc, whereas the Rebel would be a lot easier for all that. I would also hate to see it go. I have motul fork oil in stock in a few weights, I'll try the 15! I was thinking 20 tbh as currently a bit of compression damping would be lovely. Haha she likes the relaxed feel, if I ever got it to be "mine" I'd probably swap the front end entirely :D Ah that sucks, I'm sorry to hear it. That's what I had done, it's at 1050 - 1100 now fully warm and starts up much happier when cold, when it was struggling to start I did have it too low, about 900ish.

The reality was that the running costs were exceeding the kilometers that I was riding it (since I bought the GS). As for younger KZbin content creators seeking drama. Sadly, drama gets views. Same as negativity. Owning and riding motorcycles should have virtually zero negativity attached but they find a way.

It's crazy, and don't get me wrong I would love to be in their position with all the bikes they buy, and it's not jealousy it's utter bafflement. I would give an arm for an S1000RR, if it has issues it has issues, you deal with them. I think a lot of it is that some of them are so young they don't know that literally every machine ever has issues, old or brand new you will encounter maintenance items that need to be taken care of, that's just how it is.

Selling a bike . . . A rare occurrence. The Dream was passed on to my wife, and then my Dad. The 750 was written off and the money bought the FZ750. I sold the FZ750 to fund the FZR1000, the FZR1000 helped fund the Buell. Here I have sold to replace, Honda with Sachs, with Bajaj, with TVS, with Yamaha Bison, written off for VIAR. The VIAR is still in the family and I have the Keeway. So I "sell" when I fall in love with something new. Seems easy to me. Perhaps it is easier if you only have enough money to keep one bike up and running ? Generally I have been lucky buying new bikes when they are on discount when the dealers are trying to shift stock to make room for new models. My impression generally is that people do change bikes more frequently now. They are toys not transport. Like people changing their Mobile phones. Phone still works why change it ? I get a new phone when I lose or trash the old one, and then I buy one for the same price as the one I am replacing. Not looking for anything newer or "better". The rubbish most people post on KZbin or any social media is not, I hope, to be taken as a true reflection of peoples values, or lifestyles? Rather it is a barometer of amoral and asocial attitudes 🤣😆. Another fun video. Thank you. 👍
@TheGorillaBiker5 күн бұрын
Yeah I don't like selling them, I've also never not regretted selling one :D I would be much happier doing something like that, moving bikes on to friends and family, provided I didn't need to sell them etc. I would sell a bike to replace it, which is what we'd be doing with the CB, but it wouldn't be like for like really and that's why I'd find it hard. I love older UJMs. People definitely change bikes more now, especially if you look at "youtubers". I think a lot of people buy the newest shiniest to keep up with currently trending bikes, I get it if it's their job, also yes, definitely bikes are sadly seen as a fun thing in the "western" world more now than useful transport. Yeah my current phone is actually broken and I had to buy a new one, it made me physically ill. :D You'd never know tho!! My videos are me, so I assume, or want to assume, that everyone else does the same, unless they're very obviously playing a character. Thanks :)
