Thank you!!! I just changed the tailpiece of my Yamaha electric to the Whittner composite with fine tuners so I can tune up during shows. Your tips were so helpful! I finally did something right, without breaking the bridge!!

This has help immensely. I inherited an old violin that was stripped of parts. I have re-haired the bow (in a fashion but not too successfully). I refinished the violin using french polish and now am assembling the new parts. I don't play but want to make this old piece playable. I have the new parts but some don't seem to fit. The tuning keys barely reach the second hole. but the string holes seem to be about center. The end pin is too small so it doesn't fit the existing hole. Your video did show me how to assemble the tailpiece and bridge. Thank you so much.

Hey very cool video, great detail and video quality. I have a question, I'm new to violin, so, what would be the difference between strings ending in ball or loop? Do they make specific tailpieces for each? Thank you!
@KennedyViolins5 жыл бұрын
Hello Jesus, great question. In fact, perhaps I should do a video about it. Some strings are loop end but they are mostly just the E strings. Most strings are ball end. Just about any tailpiece will take a ball or a loop end, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. In my opinion, if you have a choice, you should always choose the ball end. Generally it'll be easier to install and function better. let me know if you have any ideas of more vids to make. Happy practicing!

So, is it normal to the endpin to pop out? My question has nothing to do with the video, it's just a problem i have and i can't find any youtube video about it
@KennedyViolins3 жыл бұрын
Generally, the endpin does not fall out but you should be able to pull it out with your fingertips nonetheless. It's possible that it's "too easy" to come out because the humidity levels are low where you are.

hi there, can someone please help me with something? a friend of mine that is starting with the violin, damaged the cord tied to the tailpiece and it needs to be replaced, the store where she bought the violin just sent her the "neccesary" things to repair it, do u guys know how is that process of replacing the rope? thank u so much
@KennedyViolins5 жыл бұрын
Hello Luis, replacing a chord is pretty easy. Changing out the tailpiece is probably the hardest part. The only video I did for this is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXSqfolmo8l0jJo You just have to make sure you adjust the chord so it is the right length. It should be flush with the tailpiece. Let me know if you have any other questions!

POV- yea you didn’t get recommended, you fucked up like me Storytime! 10 minutes ago. Gravity came from the gods and heaven and wanted to screw with me and drop my cello. Yea apparently my bridge and tailpiece just went wonkers. Probably my sound post shifted and my strings are just blehh

how do i get my end pin out of my cello
@KennedyViolins5 ай бұрын
It's pretty similar to a violin. You have to disconnect all the strings from the tailpiece, remove the tailpiece, and then the end pin will come right out. You may have to twist and pull a bit but it'll come out eventually!

If you bought a tailpiece, they should've sent you a chord. You might be able to use the one from the previous tailpiece but I'd call the place you bought from and insist they send you a new chord. 😉

With all due respect sir, your process for determining tailgut length is incorrect. Proper resonance of the instrument depends upon the tune of the secondary part of the string between the bridge and the tail piece. This determines tailgut length. Ie your g-string secondary should be tuned to a 'B', D string secondary should be tuned to an 'F#' and so on... good day sir! 🎶🎶😁

I certainly don't have an argument with you on that one. However, the demographic watching these videos is primarily young violin students and soccer moms and they need a "quick and dirty" answer, so they can get back to practicing. I appreciate the clear, concise, and very correct reply to my video though!

Fascinating, you are saying you play the string behind the bridge to get those pitches? I had never heard that before, how interesting.
