I usually count the turns when removing the tie rod. If the new bit is the exact same thing then it works for me. Measuring is good if the new tie rod is a different length.

My alignment is perfect on my car and it never been in an accident but when I cracked the lock not loose, I could feel the rod wiggle inside the end. Seems like it’s not grabbing onto enough thread. Been driving like that for 30,000 miles. Do you think it’s safe afterwards locked tight I could grab the tie rod and shake the whole car. And they didn’t move it with solid.

Good video, but don't measure from anywhere on a part you're replacing. If your new tie rod end is a different length yoir alignment will suffer. Measure from a point on the steering knuckle and it won't matter. Cheers.

Do you trust that the new tie rod end is the exact same length as the old? Remember that the old ball joint is sloppy. That changes the distance from the center of the ball joint to the end of the tie rod end.

This is a no go main reason is because of debris, rust and corrosion overtime, when changing a tie rod end the castle nut that is given doesnt have rust or debris so the measurements of threading on the inner tie rod wont be the same resulting to misalignment, its a good Temporary Alignment till you get to a garage, remember professional equipment is ment for accuracy and safety. So rememer this well! Your own safety is worth more than anything money can buy, you cant buy back your life from a simple mistake.!.

There is some validity to your comment. The vehicle I made this repair on doesn't get driven in the winter, so there is minimal to no rust on it. But ty for pointing this out.

Malarkey. Just say you work at a shop and want more money. Ive been doing it this way for years and have even taken vehicles to have it checked after and guess what... PERFECTLY ALIGNED...

As long as your vehicle is perfectly aligned before doing this and you measure it correctly IT WORKS PERFECTLY. I even take two forms of measurements i make a template from the box i came in and measure it with a tape measure AND EVEN take a picture of the tape measure held up to the tire rod before any work is even this ENSURES you're maintaining that perfect alignment EVERY SINGLE TIME.

A mechanic is doing this for me he says I dont need alignment is that true

As long as it’s close then yes. If you don’t have uneven tire wear, if your car doesn’t pull to the left or right then you don’t need an alignment
