Τhanks for recording your effort, this job is a nightmare, especially on the Clio, there simply is no space to maneuver stuff and access bolts. No wonder Renault dealers prefer to remove the whole engine block from the car to do this job.

Thanks a lot for the video. I also had great difficulty getting the timing belt on. Instead of using the method at 36'.59", I had the small pulley installed and slid the keyless gear from the axle with the timing belt installed. Then you can use a wood pole (I used a broom stick) to press down from above. This went very nice. I rested on my broom and slit the keyless gear including the timing belt on the axle. I also put a tie wrap around the tensioner to reduce the tension. Remove tie wrap after installing the timing belt.

Really high quality and detailed video, Will be using this for replacing the head gasket of my old Clio. Idk if it'll be financially worth fixing, but I'll get to learn a few things and I'm quite attached to that little car because it was my first. Anyways, thanks for the very informative video, you've more than earned a new subscriber.

I did this job myself... Anyone knocking the man is an idiot. It's an absolute nightmare! Literally, no access - and getting the belt on is incredibly hard. On the manual version of the megane there are some access holes to remove some of the bolts... But it's still horrible. If I had to do it again I'd pay someone to sort it... Horrible horrible job. This would have helped me when I did it myself. Top work. IMO it's not really a job for a DIYer unless you are very experienced.

Thank you for your instructions to replace the timingbelt and pump, but one question when you had tourn the lower gear (that dit not move the timingbelt) did you not also moved the position of the pisons out of their correct timing place, or did have i see it wrong?

No, the bottom one in my case was conical and could move freely. But there are engines out there that has a "key" and then the crank will rotate indeed.

@@TheDutchGarage I am now also changing my timebelt and pump, but what i notice is when i set the camshaft on time( with the dental braces tool) i can not put the pin insite the hole the that blocks the crankshaft. This is little bitt strange because they have to be together on time. Before that, the car was driving exellent and stationary. Must i keep the old adjustment like it was, or must i put them both together on time again? Can you comment on this matter.

Did you block the flying wheel with a specific tool while you were screwing the crankshaft pulley?
@TheDutchGarage4 жыл бұрын
When I removed the pulley not, But there was some footage lost in this video. You can block the flywheel by using something flat like a big screw driver on the tooth on the flywheel. the flywheel is exposed at the underside of the car.

The timing tool you insert in the crack will set the it to tdc ? but is there a chance the piston can be on exhaust stroke with this motor or is it 100% garenteed intake stroke ?
@TheDutchGarage Жыл бұрын
No you have to double check it with the crank.

piston 1 closest to gearbox side will be at TDC so take out spark plug and check
@3laino Жыл бұрын
My engine is sitting in my living room with the head and block separate.. this is now... I'm just going to use the locking tool to set the crank then while that is at tdc I'm going to put the head on... If I move the crank so the pistons are not tdc then I cannot move it back to tdc. If I turn the crank it makes no difference it will go right around back to the same spot I was at... If this engine works that I can get exhaust stroke I'm foked lol... But I have no choice but to do it the way I feel is correct. Hopefully the top part of the tool will set the valves correct as well.
@3laino Жыл бұрын
Thank you buddy. My engine is turning, I can feel the compressions. 🎉 Please do more videos about timing for when I get a different car.. I had the engine pistons set at tdc when I put the head on... Alot of videos saying don't do that but it worked for me...

As for that compression stroke problem.. I'm going to just put it back and see what happens lol 😅... Again I've no clue how to do that. If the valves are correct I hope the god damn injection can read properly 😅

@@TheDutchGarage They are lucky that they have the clio which is a pretty simple car to work on (expect a blown head gasket sooner or later though). And that your brother has one of the newer ones (which is produced in the better years). A friend of mine who also is a mechanic, worked at the Renault dealer for 8 years. He said that all the cars that were produced from about 2000 to 2007 were absolute garbage (especially the laguna and scenic kind of cars. Allot of electronic fails and overall cheap quality build). Me and a few other mechanics agreed on the fact that Japanese cars are the best cars available. With Toyota as number one, and Honda having the second place. German car manufacturers dropt the ball with their quality over the last years.
