Fantastic video. You're a saint for taking the time to show us how it's done! I vividly remember helping my elderly landlord change his tire on a dirt road off Hwy 280, south of San Francisco, in the rain. He had a ca. 1993 Toyota truck (forget the model), and I had to squirm under it in the mud to get the spare, which lacked the practical system the Maverick has. I was so filthy would have ridden home in the back, had it had been legal.

I don't normally comment on videos, but I got a flat on this specific truck last night at like 11pm, and this video helped me not panic and be able to do it myself. My dad died when I was young, so I have to learn and do most of this stuff by myself. Thanks for being there to virtually hold my hand!

very good video, alot of video skip over a lot of different parts. i used to work in a tire shop, it is amazing how many people don't know how to change a tire. i have had two rangers before i got my new Maverick, and the tire system still works the same, with a few new up grades. some things look so easy until you have to do it yourself. good video, thanks , rob

Great video! I really like how you showed each important step and honestly made changing tire look very easy and straight forward. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! Thankfully, I haven't had to change to many tires in my many years of driving. The hardest ones were when I was off-roading in the desert, always a real challenge keeping the jeep secure from moving while removing the flat tire.

Great video, Betty! A guy at work when I was 19 yrs young actually showed me how to change a tire & had me do it while he watched. Fast forward ...43 yrs later, I totally forgot as in all those yrs I've never had another flat. Especially as a woman, it's SO important to know how to do basic things to your car, i.e. changing a flat, checking & filling all fluids, tire wear & pressure, condition & proper connection of hoses, etc. I was in my late 30's when one day my car just died while driving on an old, semi-country 2 lane road. I pulled over & the 1st car stopped and a man that gave me the creeps wanted to take me into the nearest town so I can get my mechanic to tow car to shop. I had no cell phone back then. Another car stopped as well, thankfully a woman & I probably pissed the man off but I thanked him & went w/the woman. Point is, women are easy prey sometimes (there's also decent men too). I had lots of creeps hitting on me when I was young. Now I'm much older not so much but it's still a good idea to be able to get yourself back on the road again quick for safety. My granddaughter will be driving this yr & my son will def teach her & her brother all the basics as well.

Great information thank you for sharing. Always trust your instincts! If someone gives you the creeps get away from them as quickly as possible. And keeping up maintenance on your car will help keep you out of situations that could be bad. Thank you again and have a wonderful day.

Did we get a new pickup truck? Nice! In the early seventies a Maverick was a small compact car sold by Ford. (It hard to believe that 45 years later Ford calling a full size truck Maverick).😄 I got my start in a Ford Dealer Ship in the early seventies. My Dodge ram has the same kind of Jack system. I use a 1/2 inch drive ratchet, 1/2 inch drive deep well 6 point socket that fit the jack, also two 8 or 10 inch long 1/2 inch drive extension bars. this will make more easy to Jack up the truck. P.S. also get a (deep well 1/2 inch drive 6 point socket that will fit the log nuts for that truck. keep a rain jacket in the truck. ( flat tire and rain runs together.☁🌩🌧) God Bless you and your Husband.

Great job!! I use a 16 inch screw driver to lift the tire up, also a 12 volt impact wrench is a good investment. And last of all my maverick Lariat came with road side assistance. You did a very good job of explaining the tire change. I will have to check out why you have to crawl under the truck to remove one nut.
@SweetBearCub Жыл бұрын
As much as roadside assistance is a thing, waiting for them to arrive can eat up a lot of time, and the longer you're on the side of a highway, the more danger you face.

Nice video. Only thing is I would not recommend putting your feet/legs under a tire on a vehicle that is only supported by a jack. When you are pushing/pulling on the tire is when the jack has the greatest chance of failing. Also, I may have missed it, but I suggest that you always set the parking brake in addition to putting the vehicle in park and blocking the wheels when jacking up a vehicle, especially when on the side of the road with a sketchy factory jack and maybe not the best jacking surface. I think your videos give people the confidence to help themselves.

Great video, thank you. I HIGHLY recommend that ALL Maverick owners, do this exercise, at least once, for familiarity. It is a little tricky, getting the spare, separated from the lowering cable. Another point, when you order a full size spare tire, the spare you get is smaller than the 4 tires that come on the car. It's not a donut, but it is smaller than the stock tires?

thank you so much for sharing! this is really a very clear step by step instructions how to do it! When you purchased the vehicle new the nuts where not properly fixed in!???

Good video and thank you! I'm an old gearhead and I watched your video because I wanted to see how the Maverick spare was lowered down and so forth, and I stayed with it to the end. And thanks for showing that part about the strap. That's a new thing. I haven't heard of 140 ft. lbs. on (basically) a car, and you're right that is a very high number. Are sure the torque is set that high? I'm wondering if you might have glanced at the metric figure. It would look like "Nm 140" Nm being Newton Meters. Another question: Does the Owner's Manual state if a smaller wheel like your 17" spare, can go onto the front axle with the 18" wheel? It used to be that a spare had to be the same size as the wheels on the drive axle or they would spin at different speeds and damage the transaxle.
@NotamechanicBetty2 жыл бұрын
Good morning and thank you for your comment, the torque should actually be 148 ft lbs or 200 Nm. Although the spare has a 17 inch wheel/rim the overall height of the tires are the same. Hope this helps and have a great day
@discerningmind2 жыл бұрын
@@NotamechanicBetty Thank you. Clear information. Very interesting. Seems that Ford thought through on the tire diameter. Amazed at the 148 ft. lbs.! Has me wondering what the torque is for the steel wheel. I've subscribed. Have a great day too.

My hybrid xlt will be delivered in may 2022, i wish i had seen this video 9 months ago.. i didn't realize how difficult it can be to access a spare tire on a pickup truck.. If that happen to me i will also have to remove the child seat to get access to the tools behind the rear bench. And put the child seat back once im done.. as for the tire change, i live in a winter very cold region. And here we got feet of snow and ice and oily dirty slushy .. to grab the spare tire i will need somekind of wetsuit as i will not want to sit back in the vehicle after. In your case, you are a woman so im sure, 20 cars will stop to help you.
@NotamechanicBetty2 жыл бұрын
After about 7,000 miles on the tires start regular tread depth checks and have them replaced when it’s time. Also, carry a plug kit in your glove compartment in the case you get a nail in your tire, you can plug it in just a few minutes and be on your way. Some times, in life, can be uphill both ways. Stay positive and you will get through and realize how much stronger you are because of it
