Thanks David. We learn together which is awesome. I think ours was that extra difficult to remove due to the tyre being a larger size in the 225/65/17 but that’s life when you intend to take these machines off road. We have seen some great set ups OS. A spare wheel carrier on a swivel as seen on 4wds might be the best solution. Have a good one.

Hi. There is a simpler way to put the tire back under the van. You can use your jack leverage (the stick of the jack) as a handle to lift up the « tray » of the tire. There is a hole exactly for that. It makes it easier to hook it to the first retaining bolt. Also, that way you don’t neet to lay on the mud/sand... 😁 It also help when you unload the tire, to gently bring it down without the risk of damaging your hands between the tire and the ground.

Also. Just thinking about it. We have a larger tyre to standard which might affect the jack handle assisting in the lifting or lowering the spare. !!!!

I am 56 years old, since I was 10 I´ve changed between studded wintertires and summertires twice a year on 4 cars (32 wheels pr. year in 46 year) Born and raised 700 km above the Arctic circle, the temperature swinging between +30°C to -30°C. Never used a torque-wrench, never ever done any re-thightening. Never lost a wheel. The key thing is to make sure that the contact surface on the hub and the rim is clean, thighten the bolts/nuts evenly and in a diagonal pattern. Also, it is important not to use too much force when you thighten the bolts/nuts. otherwise you can stretch the bolts, and they eventually snap. ;-)

To avoid damage to the front of the spare tyre rim, it is best to mount it under the vehicle with the inside of the rim facing down with the good side facing up and protected from flying stone damage, which can be quite a lot over time, especially off bitumen. It is trickier to do this, but even oversize tyres can be made to fit this way. Anything over 225/70 16 or 225/65 17 could be difficult. A sort of shimmy action as the tyre is brought up will let it seat in the right position for the bolts to be tightened. The only issue is that the spare must be lowered to check inflation.

Hy Alex, a big hello from Belgium. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I only have one remark; with a total flat tire, the hydraulic jack doesn't fit under the vehicle. I need to use the original x-jack first to lift my T5 a little bit first.

@@4motionadventures934 Our T5 is also a Seikel equipped model (raised and protection plates). The problem I had with the jack was when I had a complete flat tire on the highway. On a concrete (or asfalt) surface I couldn't fit the hydraulic jack. I hope this comment helps some fellow 4motion lovers :-)

Hey Glen. Congrats on your new trakka. I hear the new t6.1 is a cracker. The jacking plate is not standard. I carry one just to even out the surface i place the jack on. I have had the same one in all my previous 4wds. Just an extra safety precaution especially useful on soft sand. You can use something like a plastic cutting board as well to keep things simple. We run kuhmo road venture at51 and our Tyre size and rims are 225/65/17s. This replaced the factory 215/60r/17. These tyres remain legal as they suit the load and speed rating for the van. Thierry. Greetings for Australia. We hope you are safe and well in Cannes. The jack was an upgrade that Trakka Australia supplied as part of the van to comply with the gvm upgrade. The bracket on the top of the jack to suit the jack point on the van was welded on by the team at trakka. The bar that is used to move the hydraulic post arm comes in 2 parts and would not be more than about 30cm each bar. Hope that answers your questions. Let me know of you need any more information. Yup i needed a 4 motion and have had 2 previous ones in the comfort line..VW in their wisdom no longer offer a short wheel base multivan with 4 motion and the largest engine capacity in comfortline and FORCE you to buy the highline..eg electric everything which I'm not interested in. They also only come with an 18" wheel so i now have to buy an additional mag in 18" which costs $1150 then a 340 dollar tyre.. not sure what VW are up to but I'm not buying another one. I'll have to buy a front line rod rack to carry the spare as it doesn't fit in the spare wheel well
