@@mikurealjapanese Yeah it's really helpful! It gets my brain into the mode of actually thinking IN Japanese rather than trying to think about grammar as if it's some kind of abstract puzzle. I love that you're interested in adapting your teaching style to be the most helpful too, rather than sticking with the same format simply because you decided on it at the beginning. It's a great testament to your ability as a teacher to adapt your style when you think it can be improved... ありがとうみく先生!

Yes you can say handsomely. Also you can say beautifully. The meal was beautifully simple. The dancer was beautifully gifted in his talents. The book was beautifully written. In these contexts, it refers to a delicate and detailed focus. The film was beautifully directed. Handsomely refers to a large amount.

Other people have already commented that "handsomely" is a word, but I want to add that "handsomely" is mostly used in British English. From my experience, Americans don't use that word, but the British do. I think most people learn American English, rather than British English, so it's understandable why you said it's not a word. Anyways, I love your videos. I found your videos a few days ago and I've started watching you, along with the other 日本語の先生 I watch. You have a unique style of teaching. いいビディオ、ありがとうございます!

If you haven't spent much time in Japan or with Japanese people the comment at 11:54 may seem innocuous, but having one's friends tell you that you "live freely" in Japan can be both an honest assessment and a sort of backhanded compliment. Because Japan still has relatively strict societal conventions, people are expected to do certain things the "Japanese" way. Most Japanese who choose to "live freely" face a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle backlash. So from some it is like saying "You're really going for it, much respect." But from others it can be "Wow, I'm jealous you don't seem to have any responsibilities." And from others still it can be "Wow, you really think you know better than all these other people around you." Just that simple sentence in a different tone of voice can say a lot. I am sure Miku has experienced all these versions of "live freely" when applied to her, so it's kind of a bittersweet thing to be told in Japan.

The other meaning of handsomely has been mentioned, but I do believe it can be used just as expected as well. Maybe a girl is admiring a guy and she says “he’s handsomely strolling through the room.” It’s the kind of thing that isn’t all that common, but I’m of the opinion if it makes sense in the construction and intended meaning, and the right circumstances arrive, it can be used. I have a hard time thinking of English adjectives that would actually be wrong if you did this. Aside from some that actually have a different meaning because it’s an adjective that ends in -ly or something weird like that, because of all of English’s exceptions.

This lesson was super helpful! とても親切なレッスンです! (However I think that maybe 親切 can't be used with a word like "lesson" though, haha) Thank you! P.S. A quick correction, if you don't mind. A very common mistake many people do (even some natives) is saying "a honest". The "a" vs "an" rule depends on the first sound of a word, and since honest begins with a vowel sound (i.e. it's pronounced without an "h" sound) it should be "an honest". ^_^
