I just did this. ILX-107. What worked for me was to reset the headunit, make a new folder called OPENINGFILE on a fat32 formatted drive which has other files on it, add the OPENINGFILE file to the matching folder, plug in, turn on unit, press OK to the prompt, let it load until SUCCESS message, turn unit off, unplug USB, turn on and enjoy new opening display. This worked for me on a MacBook. The trick is, when formatting the USB drive in Disk Utility; select MS-DOS (FAT) as the format, and, crucially, Master Boot Record as the scheme. Glad I didn't install dual-boot Windows just for this before trying it!

I tried for weeks on my ILX-F309 and this video helped, but not 100%. Here is how I got it to work: 1. Format the USB using Windows, new simple volume, FAT32, MBR, 4096Mb, 8196 block size. My USB drive is an 8Gb USB 2.0 model. 2. Save the image as described - 800x480 bmp from Paint - but 256 colors at first! This was important for me. 3. Name USB OPENINGFILE with a single folder OPENINGFILE which has a single file openingfile.bmp 4. Factory reset head unit 5. Plug in the USB and tap OK to update screen, restart head unit. You should now have the boot image you picked, but probably low quality. 6. Take USB back to computer. Now save the same bitmap to the same place but with 24 bit color, repeat step 5. This might sound crazy but using a lower quality bitmap on a smaller USB partition after a factory reset was the only way I could get any of this to work. Once it recognized the crappy bmp first, it has no problem seeing the high quality version. My first file was ~300Kb and the and the second was ~1500Kb. Good luck all.

THis is what helped me. you added the small details especially the 256 bitmap conversion in step 2. The unit wont engage your file unless its the specific size and at 256 color bitmap.

Robert Barnby It sucks! The operating system on the 650 is different to that in the ilx-702d platform. Alpine says there’s no way it can possibly be done. If there ever is a possible solution I’ll put a video up for you but that’s all we can do for now :( Hope the install on the Porsche went smoothly :)

Note that newer Alpines now have different file size requirements, folder naming requirements, and file type requirements and also different for each world region.. For iLX-507a I searched for a youtube on that and read the comments to get that info. More complicated. Perhaps time for a new video here !

I’ve try literally everything... I’ve ILX-700 always USB DEVICE IS NOT SUPPORTED... I’ve changed pendrive (5) file name uppercase and not folder name uppercase and not 10 time resizing file(800x480) and change color depth... I don't know what else he will do... any advice?

Are you using a Windows computer? If not. Do that. Can you get to the back of the unit? I would unplug it just to reset it. I know you've tried a few different things and you've tried a few different pendrives. What kind of Pendrives are they? Similar to what is used in the video? Following these exact steps to the T is the way to do it and if youve done that and not working i would be trying: 1) Unplug head unit. 2) Plug USB in directly to the head unit (without extension cable) 3) Software update on unit.

radosuaf Depends on the unit. Some you can go into the settings and once you’ve changed the splash screen you can go in and revert it. You can try reset factory settings (might not work) and then you can just do the same change splash screen steps in this video but with the genuine alpine logo 😊

unfortunately your instructions are wrong , i purchased the complete alpine ilx507 with the alpine hvac system from dave at fitting bay in wa and he instructed me as to how to chsnge the screen , and it worked , have ost the instructions from dave , but your instructions concerning folders does not work , tried for hrs all i get is no usb detected and all other usbs with music , video etc work , its in your folder set up , there is another name with numbers that has to be used , car is a ve ssv , cheers

Followed everything in great detail - doesn't work for my Alpine ILX-F309. The head unit recognizes the USB, but never prompts to update the screen. I've tried multiple USB drives with zero success. Even attempting a variety of names for the drives from USB DRIVE to OPENINGFILE as well. NOTHING works. The BMP was made in Photoshop and saved to exact specs. Not working. I've prob invested 4+ hours trying every available variable and combination possible with no luck. I've even tried factory resetting the unit. Didn't work. I've tired turning it on with with the USB in and out. Didn't work. Reiterating that the ILX-F309 recognizes the drive, and usb functions perfectly with CarPlay. Followed all the information from here as well.
