How to change alternator 1998-2002 honda accord EASY

In this video. I show you how to change an alternator on a 1998 to 2002 Honda Accord. It's very easy and can be done in about a half an hour. Along with the heater and lights, other loads to add are the rear window defroster and windshield wipers. Cause if you're out on a cold rainy night that is what will be on, then of course you have your radio and brakes. A good alternator should make the adjustments to keep a proper charge at idle. It's not ok if you have to rev the engine to keep up. This is with all good wiring and connections.. And voltage drop could be a culprit. There are lots of videos on that topic. Unless I'm in a pinch, I would not get a salvage yard alternator. But, as easy as they are to replace in this gen. accord it's not that big a deal, even if you only get a couple months out of it..Thanks again! Great video!

Good idea to just take a flat file to the pivot surfaces & adjustment ear of the alt, also brass brush the threads & shoulders of all the bolts/hardware removed & hit them with a few drops of 3 in 1 oil so it all goes back together a bunch easier than it came apart.

Did any other lights come on the dash? I had my alternator checked and was told it was good, but the battery light, SRS and all door light indicators on the dash light up here and there

Hey man! Just watching this video right now. I put it in 2 12s and now my car won’t start. I took out the battery and re charged it and it turned on for a day. Tried to turn it on today in the morning and it died again. What’s your input? Do you think I should upgrade my alternator? Is the battery too weak to hold?

I have that same car, sometimes when I'm driving that I'm in a traffic the alternator gives me a voltage of 11.50 volts it has happened to me some returns, I suspect that my alternator has a voltage drop on some occasions. And that can cause the engine to be unstable and shake in idle. But I'm not sure I should take the car to be diagnosed by the alternator.

Hello here again, I changed my alternator in a workshop of used alternators and with the engine on it marks 14.32 without loads in the car 🚘 but when I put a/c and lights go down to 13.87 at idle, when I have an hour on the road walking on my usb charger inside my car the voltage drops to 12.70 sometimes 13.0 v, I had a significant voltage drop from the alternator to the battery in the cables and I put a cable #4 direct from the alternator to the battery and the voltage increased in the car's electronic system to more than 14.0 but I still have the same problem I had with the old alternator I don't know what's going on, I will have to change the alternator again until I find the problem.

hey what you could do to check is to look on the pulleys and see if any of them are hard to turn. if there's one that is stuck and wont turn, that's the one that's bad and needs to be replaced. thanks for commenting

I have a 98 honda accord lx 4 cylinder and there's a 4 pin 4 colors Red,Blue Green,White pins that popped out whit fixing my solenoid and I dont know what colors goes back where it stopping my car from cranking the wires are coming from my alternator and I think my distrubutor

There should be a 4 pin connector on the back of the distributor I can tell you what order the colors ggo when I get back home. I'll leave another reply

Lmao @tool left in the engine bay.... ive totally never done that....a few times 😂 But before last year when i got my first motorcycle- an old honda rebel 250, i hadnt ever even changed a tire. I have AAA, have since i was 16 and im 41 now so dont judge- why do it if its paid for. Anyway the shop said 80 to change the bikes oil and they had to do a break in ride (that "old" rebel only had 500 miles on her since birth at the factory. I said um yeah gfy, im not paying you to ride my anything and 80 for an oil change on a bike thst cost me 200?! Fadt forward i now have aquired a 2002 accord as well and have taught myself how to replace an egr valve, motor mounts, all lug studs with or without shaving down a corner, oil change all day, cut and solder new ignition coil connectors at the fuel rail - cuz its an 02 and they are behind the engine and disintegrate when you even look at them, replaced all the ground wires battery and both terminal wires, repaced my radiator and im just waiting on my alternator now- because all four doors are NOT open and i dont have my e brake on plus my battery is new so clearly i did a voltage drop from battery to alternator then just for shyts n giggles pulled my positive while running and.... yeah -I'll have that in by friday. My motorcycles only ever needed oil changes but i did put on a kick down clutch! All in all its been a great year, cars never been down more than a day a month average for the stuff ive had to do, its got 250k today and still going!! Thanks for helping me with the latest addition to my skillset. I guess im an auto carpenter lol... actual career and + newest hobhy.

I would need more information. is the battery dead? and are there any obd codes? if the alternator was bad and you got it replaced, you may need a new battery. what is the car doing?

actually, those cheesebox parts store chains can really jam you up pretty good with both their remanned or even their supposedly "new" lifetime warrantied units. I've had scads & scads of trouble with electrical stuff purchased from o'reilies . Sometimes the wrecking yard's the better route.

Auto zone and aftermarket alternator use poor cheap materials. If you have time take it off and normally you can find a company they rebuild alternators and starters

Oh and i can curse out a part, bolt or tool better than any mechanic now too 😂...seriously tho honda WTF with the power steering hose bolt location!!! What kind of flat footed crows you using to get to that inch of space behind the wheel, against the firewall, aint no way in hell even hanging from a stunt mans cable with a baby's hand and a wish is that getting loose or coming out kinda ish yall doing?! Well im talking to a company that even after 10 years and 3000 versions of a model all of which got power steering hose recalls...cuz apparently you still couldn't figure out maybe go with a different manufacturer....nm ill ask anyone else but yall how to fix your car 😎
