Made my day. Could have been busy figuring out what I had to do but instead I finished fast and got on with life. For other 3.8L owners, if your belt comes off in the rain; it's time to replace the Tensioner Assembly.

I replaced the belt tensioner assembly on my 1998 Camaro 3.8L. However I still have the problem of the belt slipping whenever I am driving in very heavy rain with at least 0.5-1 inch of rain on the ground. What you think the problem is? Should I buy a splash guard to cover the bottom of my engine bay. I have researched about this problem and apparently it is a common problem with the 4th gen camaros and firebirds. I believe excessive amounts of rain splashing onto the belt causes it to slip. Also is there a way to tighten the serpentine belt?

@@phones159I've spent a lot of time of the side of the road putting that belt back on (sometimes in the pouring rain at night) and as soon as I put the new tensioner on, it was solved for me. No way to further tighten it that I know of. If its physically loose try using a slightly smaller belt maybe? Other than that make sure there is no grease on the pulleys or belt.

@spinxtercell5 жыл бұрын
@@backyardchevy328 The whole thing. It snapped on the metal tube holding the arm.

Wow, must of got a defective one...that really sucks:(, the one i replaced is still going strong..they should have a year or two year warranty, but unfortunately not sure how company would go about covering anymore if they would.

I’m about to undertake doing this on a 99 firebird, but don’t have much experience with it. Any advice on what all parts I need to order?
@backyardchevy3284 жыл бұрын
Youll need the tensioner and youll also need the dorman hose 47065hp part number if theyre the original plastic theyll definitely break on you once u get it off

Or unless ur talking about the new one if it went too far in, just twist it out, if u lubricated it with oil, itll slide back out with o ring in tact and good shape.

It would depend..if u go to the ones where u remove em urself or if theyre removed for u..id guess 20 for one removed urself..and 30-40 for one they remove
