Thank you. Nice of you to post a video like this. I've never changed the blades on my Dewalt Planer so am attempting that for the first time. Seems pretty straightforward but it was good to see it actually done first before attempting myself. Cheers.

great video. I'm having troubles with mine. Only used it couple of times, but wood shavings keep getting stuck in behind the blade and I have to remove and clear it out over and over. The screws are tightened as much as I can get them. Do you have any ideas what the problem could be?
@Bacrenfencing Жыл бұрын
It could be that you are taking off too much material at a time. Try using the 0.5 > 1mm setting and that should help ? I find that if I take 2mm passes, it clogs the blades sometimes.
@ligngood3787 Жыл бұрын
Thank you but how do you adjust the height? There's nothing for the blade carrier/holder to register against and I don't see how to raise it to the right height and then hold it there while tightening the screws which are rotated too far back to reach when the blade is at the top? Mine got knocked by hitting a screw and I'm not lucky enough to simply swap the blades like this...

Hi. I have the DeWalt planer as yours, brand new, when I set depth to zero the plane stil takes material about .1 or ,2. Is there a way to re calibrate the blade to zero
@Bacrenfencing2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure Frank as my plane is always set at 0.5mm as a minimum most of the time. The work I do does not warrant such fine adjustment. Thanks for the comment

I have the same issue, its a problem when chamfering an edge as it takes a huge chunk out. I saw another youtuber comment on his and he reset the blades so 0 was 0 material removed. I noticed one of my blades was higher than the other, just in the process of trying to sort it out now. How did you go?

So you don't need to adjust the blade height on the 18V? I have the 20V version and when I change blades sometimes one side will be slightly higher than the other. And yes it is in the groove. Good video though.
@Bacrenfencing Жыл бұрын
I have never had any issue with blade height as long as the blade is in the groove, but I have heard people saying that they have had issues. No issues with my planer and I must have changed the blades 10+ times.
@MrCarnagh3 жыл бұрын
How do you make sure the blades are parallel with the face of the plane? Mine cuts deeper on one side, or is this not possible and I’ve just bought a wonky tool? Cheers
@Bacrenfencing3 жыл бұрын
Hi James, not sure why that would happen as the blades have a notch all the way along them which should hold them parallel to the face. Have you checked to make sure that the blade is in correctly ?
@johno-gb7ci Жыл бұрын
Did you sort it mine has done the same
@MrCarnagh Жыл бұрын
@@johno-gb7ci nah mate still the same, I took it back to the shop and they sent it off but had it returned saying nothing was wrong with it, the bloody thing is off by a couple mm! Almost enough to put me off dewalt Could you have dropped yours?
@johno-gb7ci Жыл бұрын
@@MrCarnagh bloody anoying.. im going to have another look later i think it's to do with the screwdriver head bit behind the clamp that holds blates. Im sure that needs to be fully pushed into itself then tightened with pozi drive so it runs parallel. Got to make sure it goes in little slot groove when putting it back on. Ive never dropped mine
@maeflower1020 Жыл бұрын
Planes will dig in deeper one side, until you have a lot of experience it’s hard not to do. The planer is slightly heavier one side, work out which side and be mindful to apply more pressure the other side while running the planer along.

One of my blades sticks out further than the other. It also sticks out when the plane is set to zero, which means it cuts when there should be no blade contacting the wood, and it also means the depth setting is wrong because 0.5mm is more than 0.5mm. That's how it came from the factory, and I can't seem to adjust the blades. So it's pretty useless if you want accuracy. Seems like it's a brute force tool.
