That’s a great video. Very straight forward. I will try to do this next time on my own instead of paying someone. Good tip with the turkey baster.

Thanks man. Your lever is a little janky so I would replace that anyway. You might want to look into an adjustable aftermarket lever instead of just a stock replacement. Just be careful as a lot of people screw up their clutch lever install so I won't even show anyone how to do that lol

@@YouMotorcycle When you told me about the lever that night, I actually ordered a set of aftermarket ones when I got home. They came the next day and I installed them before I took it to get a safety and they were actually pretty well made. I was impressed. It had an adjustment dial on it as well. They’re shorter too so the bar end will hopefully take the brunt of the impact should it ever fall.

Great video ! People need to know that getting the bleeder moving is most important work. If they break it, a new (or used if you can find one) caliper will have to be installed. Hope some great summer for you still !

Yeah. Personally I'm not sure I'll be doing brake fluid videos anymore. I don't know that I want to encourage people to mess around with their brakes themselves if they aren't sure how to do it. Could be a dangerous situation if someone messes something up. Thoughts?

@@YouMotorcycle- We should likely all have disclaimers in our about sections and make reference to them at the start of each video. @@YouMotorcycle a couple of weeks ago I bought a 2015 Boulevard with only 2000 miles on it. Last weekend I went up to VT with some friends and put 1000 miles on my bike. When I got home I noticed the spongy squeeze to my front brakes. In your video I found a treasure.

I had problems many times with the bolts securing the brake oil reservoir's top cover. Aluminum threads oxidize in the presence of fluid traces. With those insipient cracks, they end up disfigured and make their release or fixation an adventure at times. The thread has a very fine pitch and it is not easy to find hexagon socket head screws with this diameter and pitch for easy removal. For those traveling on dusty streets, two years is a long time to replace the oil.

I agree! I like the brake fluid cylinders that are like little bottles with twist off lids. Maybe not as attractive, but very easy to deal with.

With a one way valve installed after the first set of open close to get some fluid in the line. Wouldn’t you just be able to leave the brake bleeder open. Then just keep pumping lever and toping off MC because air would never be sucked back up
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 2 жыл бұрын
Theoretically yup, once you've got fluid past the valve with no air between the bike and the valve... But I'd rather play it safe especially when showing others

Is this maintenance just for the front brake or rear brake as well?
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 7 ай бұрын
Depends on the bike. Many Suzuki Boulevards (650 and 805cc) have a rear drum brake so this would only apply to the front. The bigger ones (M90, M109 etc.) have rear disk brakes so this would apply to their back brakes as well

I have a 2015 Suzuki Boulevard M50. What about the rear brake? Do they need to be bled too? Thanks for all your posts.
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jo-Anne. No the rear brake is a drum brake. It uses a mechanical system. There is no fluid. The front brake is a hydraulic brake. It relies on the fluid to work. That's why we change the front but don't have to change the back on your M50. Other (bigger) Boulevards like the M90 and M109 will have rear (hydraulic) disk brakes, but your M50 does not :)
